The object should be to show that they can be held accountable for their lies opening up more litigation opportunities or causing them to chill their bullshit.
They had to admit that they lied and $787.5 million. Now, on to Smarmatic, who is suing Fox for $2.6 billion...
You missed the part about Bartiromo, Hannity, Carlson and Ingraham drawing straws to see who follows Dobbs over the side in shark-infested waters… I’m sure that’s in there somewhere…
Not so fast. Fox News will not have to acknowledge on air that it told election lies about Dominion Voting Systems as part of the terms of its settlement, a representative for Dominion told CNN.
Even if it is not required as part of the settlement to explicitly acknowledge that they broadcasted lies about Dominion, I would think that Fox has to have some coverage of this lawsuit. As jaded as I might be about Fox, I think they have to acknowledge that they paid nearly $800 million over it. And in so doing, they would have to at a minimum admit that there was no proof of Dominion having swung votes. But maybe Fox will just put it in the memory hole.
Given that they were freaking out over losing $13 million, I’d say no. Now that I think about it, I wonder if Fox put a clause that says that Dominion can’t settle with Fox’s competitors but has to let it go to trial. We know Fox is worried about losing viewers to them. Fox can take them out this way and the nutters will blame Dominion.
Disappointing and Disappointingly predictable. Money doesn't matter (to Fox) because as long as they have the rubes and the sweetheart cable deals, it's all good. Meanwhile old white folks who sit in the echo chamber all day being told the world outside their doorstep is a socialist hellscape which might at any time generate a BLM monster on your doorstep that you should be ready to shoot on sight... Will keep shooting.
Yeah, CNN's first story was that they would have to acknowledge their lies in a statement. Not one on their channel but to the press in general. They've backed off that now b/c the statement came and went and they basically didn't admit to anything.
I assume the MAGAts are going to interpret the settlement as Fox being "TOTALLY EXONERATED!" and proceed from there?
Pretty sure have been pretending it isn’t happening from the beginning. Notice the complete absence of our usual Republican Defenders (totally not Republicans though!) from this thread.
If you search for it, you can find a story about it on the site that fails to disclose the amount of the settlement, that prominently puts the Fox statement but omits anything that Dominion said in response, and that quotes the judge as saying there was fine lawyering on all sides: https://www.foxnews.com/media/fox-n...stems-reach-agreement-over-defamation-lawsuit
Is that smiley still ? Yes, it is apparently : storm : That should be retired or renamed. Let's not celebrate Nazis, OK? Anyway, the underlying sentiment is demonstrably untrue. as people have been killed because they jogged in the wrong neighborhood, went to the wrong dance club, or otherwise posed no threat.
I doubt that's the Fox News crowd. Not a lot of dancing and jogging to be done in a mobility scooter.
Some context as to why Dominion settled - it was going to be difficult to prove economic damages for a company of Dominion's size related to what they were asking for. In this case, Dominion's revenues last year were modest. The valuation of the company at most was $80 million. They received 10 times the value of the entire company. And more importantly, it won't be tied up for a decade in appeal. So as much as I wanted to see them knife the bastards, in retrospect it absolutely makes sense from their POV. Plus all of what we heard is now in the public record for anyone else who wants to sue Fox. Smartmatic may end up settling as well, but with everything already out there they are definitely going to get paid. And while we might be disappointed that lawsuits against OAN and Newsmax may actually knock them out of business leaving Fox alone in the conservative news cycle, at this point that's probably a good thing, as those two groups are even more contemptible and insane. And it's possible that Fox will lose it's insurance over their lack of fidicuiary oversight of their core business. Then there's litigation against the My Pillow guy. My guess is this will be ongoing for quite some time. https://www.yahoo.com/news/dominion-settlement-just-beginning-fox-152845001.html
I don't watch Fox and have no idea who this guy is. Was he one of the people most flogging the Dominion falsehoods? Was it just coincidence that shortly after having to pony up nearly $800m that he's out? Or is this the start of heads rolling?
More likely a sacrificial goat. Carlson and the others will stay, but munch on this cunt's bloated corpse for a bit.
Yep, he was full on the Trump crazy train. Election denier, anti-vaxxer. All the worst elements of the Tea Party. NYT had him among the top 5 election lie superspreaders. Anti-Vaxxer who protested Fox News corporate policy - despite being vaccinated himself. Former NYPD officer, then in the Secret Service for over a decade. He was a guest host for Hannity and the even further right Mark Levin. Frequent guest on Alex Jones Infowars conspiracy theory show. Wrote a book called 'Spygate: The attempted sabotage of Donald J Trump.' He's run for office multiple times but never successful. He was signed on to replace Rush Limbaugh's radio time slot after his death. He's been banned from Twitter, Facebook and Youtube for his misinformation. So basically your horrible piece of shit media type that lies constantly for profit. FF no doubt loves him.
Carlson and Hannity will toe the line. Bongino can't be trusted to do so and has gone after Fox before when he disagreed with them. I wouldn't expect major changes at Fox, but they will be more worried about lawsuits in the future. After all, Dominion is definitely not the last, they have at least 2 more to deal with.
