Totally uninspiring new TV season coming up. I've read most of the comedy pilots, and most are variations on "girls being vulgar in Brooklyn." "Whitney", "Two Broke Girls", "I Hate My Teenage Daughter," "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" and "The Bitch in Apartment 23" (or whatever they're calling it) are pretty much the exact same show, with the same characters, beats and jokes. Girls being potty mouthed, boyfriends being ineffectual and offended bluehairs changing the channel. I can't imagine any of them catching on. "Man Up" is pretty funny, though. And I have high hopes for "Free Agents," which had a really sharp pilot script and is based on a long-running Brit show. I don't know much about the drama pilots, but "Person of Interest" on CBS looks good. And we'll see which one of the "Mad Men" clones picks up an audience.
Persons of Interest looks really good. Also, the new show with Zooey Deschanel looks to be above-par as well. But the one trailer for a new show that looked really amazing was "Smash". It's got a great cast, and an interesting take on being a TV musical that isn't a direct rip-off of Glee. [YT="Smash on NBC"]3U_SlMpFJvk[/YT]
My watch list- New Shows: Person of Interest Far and away the show I'm most excited about. I admit my expectations are so high for this that I am setting myself up for a high risk of disappointment but this jumps out at me the same way Heroes and 24 did when I first heard about them. Grimm No idea what to expect here, but I'm a sucker for off-beat concepts. Once Upon a Time Another show making use of fairy tale mythos, but in perhaps a more obvious fashion. Hell on Wheels Never heard of this before today, but it's on AMC and the concept is nails. if anyone can bring back the Western (Deadwood notwithstanding) it's AMC. Terra Nova Hey, I gotta give it a try. Pan Am Christina Ricci? I'm in. At least to start. American Horror Story I know much less about this, just reacting more to the concept. Still, I seem to manage to miss a lot of the shows I intend to watch on FX. For some reason the scheduling just cramps me. Other new shows that might be interesting but will probably be culled by the fact that i really don't watch much TV: Ringer, Revenge, Hart of Dixie (which I assume will descend into soap suds from day one), Homeland (which sounds great but i don't get Showtime), A Gifted Man Most likely to be an astonishingly ugly bomb - Last Man Standing. Tim Allen tries to go home again - does this sort of thing EVER work? Returning shoes: Fringe Castle NCIS Justified Is Echelon ever coming back?
I can't see anything out there for me. Cloned sitcoms, and Speilberg's soon to be cancelled dino romp. I've got my Breaking Bad, Sons Of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Mentalist, Who. That's what I got.
Sons of Anarchy has started. It had Lem and Ronnie from the Shield this week (Dutch was killed a couple years ago). Therefore, this season will be good.
Honestly? ThunderCats South Park Futurama Star Wars: Clone Wars Yes, I realize they are all cartoons. Somehow, I've just lost interest in any new live action shows. You can just do so much more with animation than you can ever do in live action. And Smallville is over, that was the only live-action series I watched regularly, and I didn't even enjoy it all that often... Most of my TV viewing is old shows and movies on DVD.
I would have assumed that "Hell on Wheels" would at least potentially appeal to folks like you and shootER and some of the other manly men around here.

Me thinks some folks here are taking overmuch pride in turning the cynicism dial up to 11. Every show you like was a new show you hadn't seen at some point (as mike points out) and every season which is 80-90 crap still tends to turn out one or two gems. The trick is figuring out which are the gems before investing too much time in the crap - and then praying that one that's good somehow manages to not get canceled.
I'd like to watch it; but when I went to their web site it wasn't much help telling me when and where I can watch it.
So they're basically trying to capitalize on Tina Fey's success, but doing a horrible job at it. Honestly, there is not a single new TV show that interests me this season and I don't think I've ever said that before. Though, there was one show that interested me, but it got canned after the pilot was filmed. 17th Precinct created by Ronald D. Moore and starring Jamie Bamber, James Callis, and Tricia Helfer. It's a modern day cop/detective show with wizards, basically. Sounded intriguing and with the attached talent I was disappointed that they didn't even decide to air the pilot. But anyway, this upcoming TV is underwhelming. A bunch of rehashed ideas, as actormike pointed out. Plus a reboot of Charlie's Angels and a cartoon version of Napoleon Dynamite (because audiences were desperately craving an animated TV show of a six year old movie).
