    More new shows!

"Suburgatory" is actually pretty funny. It's sort of "Mean Girls" mixed with some of the less weird aspects of "Six Feet Under." Give it a chance.

Enjoyed the hell out of the "Pan Am" pilot.

"How to Be A Gentleman" was horrendous, and already got axed.

Going to give "2 Broke Girls" one more episode before I delete it.

"Terra Nova" didn't grab me. I just couldn't get past some of the plot holes.

Finally caved and tried watching "Whitney." Holy shit is that awful.

I really wanted to like "How to Be A Gentleman", from a casting standpoint it was loaded, but yeah, no surprise when it got canceled.

The Big Bang Theory desperately needs a writing consultant who was actually nerdy at some point in life. The people I know who like it are all people who had or have some sympathy for and friends among the nerdy types but were never actually nerdy themselves. It's way too fake for an actual nerd to relate to it at all.

Some of the situations may be a bit contrived, but I disagree with the "true nerds can't relate" opinion. It's one of the rare shows where I have LOL moments.

I think the fact that it also appeals to non-geeks is simply because it's so well written that it works on multiple levels. Case in point--the episode awhile back where Sheldon can't sleep because he's feeling guilty about something. He wanders out to the kitchen, encounters Leonard, who posits that Sheldon is actually dreaming at that moment. When Sheldon asks for evidence to support the hypothesis, Leonard points to the Gorn sitting on their sofa, reading a magazine.

That's a LOL moment for me, because it's unexpected, and it's a Gorn, furthermore because the magazine it is reading is "Gorn Monthly", which is absurd! My wife and kids, who always watch with me, are laughing because there's a lizard man on the sofa. Equally amusing to them, and they don't need to know the least bit about Star Trek to appreciate it!

Very VERY disappointed with this season's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
    Seems very strained and uninspired.

I'm enjoying Ringer, it's the most marvellously overblown fucked up show since the days of Dallas and Dynasty. SMeG still can't act for shit, which merely adds to the atmosphere.

    "Once Upon a Time"

    Interesting concept
    High production values
    well played

Not a bad pilot, worth watching again to see how it goes...

I do see one inconsistency already though...noticing a big clock in the town square said 8:15, the boy explains "time is frozen here" and as you see the various "real world" avatars of the fairy tale people, they are all the same age as when the curse went into play 10 years before.

    BUT

The child (and apparently all children?) aged normally.

It's interesting this one and "Grimm" made the cut in the same season...i'll catch Grimm on Hulu this weekend (same time slot as Fringe so...) and see how they compare and contrast.

I caught this last night, and was pleasantly surprised. Jennifer Morrison has decent enough acting chops to pull off the lead, the kid wasn't as annoying as most kids are, and the Queen was deliciously malevolent. The supporting cast is well done as well. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

I liked it too! Going to PVR Grimm as well (gotta watch these shows when I'm up at 5 working on stuff).

I'm really disappointed that Being Human seems to have been cancelled. Every single time really get into a show it gets cut.

Having a really hard time getting into "House" this season. The first episode was interesting, but the new setup at PPTH, with House being stuck with an just an intern and a volunteer, makes it feel like the showrunners are just waiting for the audience to leave so they can lock the doors and turn off the lights.

Eh, I'm digging it so far. Seems like regular House to me, although I am missing Cuddy. But who'd have thought that they could find a replacement for Olivia Wilde that was even more smoking hot? Damn, that girl makes me feel all squishy inside.

It's a little weird seeing Foreman as the boss. I would have expected it to be Wilson.

    Grimm

Quite well done. nothing groundbreaking mind you, but it's got the same motif as shows like Buffy or Supernatural (from what i know of Supernatural anyway)

It hit all the right notes, the leading man is right away one of the best looking guys on TV and he's not a stiff who just got the part for his face. The story was the right mix of genre and cop show, and there was a good seasoning of humor in the script, particularly from the "Big Bad Wolf" (don't ask me to spell what he actually called himself) who stands to be a breakout character if the show takes off.

Still, it's on opposite Fringe (a VERY bad programming choice by NBC) so I'll be watching future episodes on Hulu.

It's not bad, but I enjoyed "Once Upon A Time" a lot more. But I do agree, "wolf dude" is quite the scene stealer.

I enjoy "Always Sunny," but there's only so far you can take the "a bunch of sociopaths do horrible things to other people" premise before it wears out, I suspect.

That said, the musical was freaking awesome.

Well, they seems to me to be very different types of shows.

This one is sort of a police procedural with a genre twist, and the other is a soap, or so it seems, with a genre twist.

Grimm strikes me as very much like the sort of thing Sean Cassidy used to do, OUAT is a touch more...i don't want to say campy but...broader?...

Before the season I was skeptical about two shows with so many similarities coming out at once, but i see how both could work.

    The latter is 100% incorrect.

Here are the top 30 shows in viewers for the week of October 17 thru 23, 2011; from TV Media Insights.

NCIS (CBS): 19.41 million, Dancing With the Stars – Monday (ABC): 17.76, NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS): 15.35,
The World Series, Game 4: Texas at St. Louis (Fox): 15.16, Two and a Half Men (CBS): 15.14,
The Big Bang Theory (CBS): 14.93, The OT (Fox): 14.69, The World Series, Game 2 (Fox): 14.17,
The World Series, Game 1(Fox): 14.17, Dancing With the Stars – Tuesday (ABC): 14.28,
Criminal Minds (CBS): 13.15, Modern Family (ABC): 13.04, Once Upon a Time (ABC, series premiere): 12.93,

CSI (CBS): 10.79, CSI: NY (CBS): 10.72, The X Factor – Tuesday (Fox): 10.39, Last Man Standing (ABC): 10.34

Person of Interest finished 17th out of more than 80 shows on the 4 major networks.
Three shows that did better were World Series Games, and Person of Interest was on against a World Series Game.

For comparison, the most recent original episode of Fringe, on Oct. 14, had 3.14 million viewers.

On Thursday, October 27, Person of Interest had 11.62 million viewers.
This was on against the epic World Series Game 6, which had 21.06 million viewers.

I gotta clean that up - it rankles me

    Shiny!!

If I'm understanding this correctly, their regular time slot competition (Grey's Anatomy on ABC and The Office/Whitney on NBC finished out of the top 30 that week.

That's considerably more than just getting by. the fox show that normally airs in that slot is bones, and i'm going to go out on a small limb and say bones doesn't normally tare in the top 20 either.

Also, one of the things they look for is a show to hold or build on it's lead in audience, and the comedy on in the previous hour on CBS also do not appear on your list. Although to be fair, "How to be a Gentleman" really sucked at holding onto Big Bang Theory's numbers.

Still, I don't see any other way to count that but as a success.

    A couple of unrelated observations:

    1. I continued to be mystified that so many people continue to watch Dancing With the Stars
---1a. Apparently the uproar to boycott the show because of Chaz bono, um, didn't work

    2. that's a very impressive premiere for Once Upon a Time

    3. I had no idea "The Mentalist" was so popular.

It's so depressing that 2 Broke Girls is doing so well. The show is awful. I gave it three or four episodes, and it just doesn't get better.

Also, NBC is a trainwreck. Not one show other than football in the top 30. They need to blow it up, cancel everything but 30 Rock and MAYBE Community and start the F over.

I've finally seen 30 Rock now that CC is rerunning it in marathons.

    Wow....overrated.
Cutesy Seinfeld knockoff with Scrubs sprinkles.

Just plain blow up NBC, there's nothing.

I hadn't even noticed but you're right. There's not one show on NBC I make a point of seeing. I've heard good things about both Community and Parks & Rec but it's not really my kind of thing.

the wife watches L&O still but that's pretty much it.

Well no, check that - I'll be watching Grimm (albeit on Hulu) for as long as it seems interesting.

It's the only show I watch on NBC, though. I watch only one show on ABC, too: Modern Family.

I watch no shows at all on CBS. None.
