Seems he's not going to Iraq. I had my doubts. Seemed pretty stupid to send such a high-profile target in harms way.
It's tradition that Royals be in the military. Prince Andrew flew helicopters during the Falklands etc.
Again, I must reiterate that if everyone, especially the media, had just STFU about it from the get go, he could have quietly gone and none would have been the wiser.
As the media'd already leaked it into the world, we could have used information planting to pull the enemy into a trap.
This is what I said when they told us he was going to Iraq. It would be incredibly stupid to put the lives of those men around him in danger just so they could say Harry went to Iraq.
Well, in that case they might as well stop paying the money and wasting the time of the instructors and the student by allowing the royals into the Brit military.
Actually, at the time he was closer to the throne than Harry is. Andrew was younger brother of the heir, Harry is younger brother of the heir's heir.
I agree that he would be a danger to others and under any other situation I would say that he should have the right to choose, but in this instance he is part of the military chain of command and if his superiors order that he not go for tactical reasons such as this then he should accept whatever alternate assignment he is given and do it to the best of his ability.
I think that was a different situation. If Harry had been a pilot or a sailor, he might have have gotten to go IMHO. But as a front line officer he was far too exposed.
