Just got back from the cinema... I forgive you Michael Bay. Armageddon, Pearl Harbour...every movie you have shat out onto the screen was worth it so that you could make this one. I won't post a proper review since I hear it doesn't come out for another week in the USA, except to say that you MUST SEE THIS. There are some corny lines, some cliches, some groan-worthy moments, but they are all part of the fun and they don't try to hide them. The only real bad thing is that this is one of those movies that shows us we need a decent framerate for films far more than we need HD. There are plenty of times when so much is going on that film simply can't keep up.
[?=Questions]How did Megatron work out as a jet instead of a gun? What about Bumblebee as a Camaro instead of a Beetle?[/?]
I haven't seen the cartoon for years, but now I fully intend to track both it and the Transformers movie (original) down. So unfortunately I can't really answer your questions except to say that Bumblebee is fantastic.
I'll pass. The designs look too unlike the Transformers from my chldhood to give me any interest at all. If they want to use my nostalgia to put me in a theater seat,t hen they need to give me some of what I loved in the first place. Prime didn't have flames on him, Bumblebee wasn't a sprots car, Ironhide wasn't a pickup truck, Jazz wasn't a GM product. and so forth. The disigns are just way too busy and don't look anything like Transformers. I understand Bay wanted "realism" in a film about robots that turn into cars, but Transformers didn't have all the exposed parts. No thanks. I wanted an updated version of the Transformers from my childhood, not totally new designs with Transformers labels on them.
This is totally your loss. I can guarantee you that when you eventually see this movie on dvd (as you know you will) you will regret not seeing it on the big screen.
Bailey if you go on youtube they have the whole thing on it. tryed to post a link to it a bit ago but wf is been piss poor again.
Well oddly enough I'd rather see a movie like this at the theatre than watch a tiny low quality windowed version. Also, linking to pirated media isn't that great an idea on the board.
Well, aside from Bumblebee, none of the transformers were really recognizable as anything but general cars. And really, who cares what CAR Bumblebee is? Volkswagen didn't want to let Transformers use a Bug, what are ya gonna do?
There's a reason the Transformers are all Chevy's: Licensing. I'd imagine they couldn't get multiple car companies to let them use just ONE of their cars, and put them next to a COMPETITOR'S car. I'm pulling this out of my ass, but I'd bet that VOlkswagen refused to let Transformers use the Beetle because it would be the ONLY Volkswagen, and VW probably wanted a better representation of their vehicles in such a high-profile movie.
WTF? Jazz was a Porsche, Sunstreaker and Sideswipe were Lamborghinis. Those are hardly "General cars".
Oh, I understand the real world [Read: money] issues that lead to just GM products being used. But Bumblebee isn't a Camero or any other sports car. If we have to pick a GM car for Bumblebee, why not a Chevy Aveo?
VW and Ford wouldn't let there cars be used in the film. oh and bailey the video has been up for months and not taken down like other stuff is they are letting it stay up as it's a good ad for people to go see the new one.
Volkswagon has been opposed to having their car made into a robot for years now. The reason is because Germans are pansy when it comes to anything having to do with warfare, guns, and violence. Because they started WWI and created Hitler, they've gone so far in the other direction that anything having to do with their vehicle or other products brandishing a weapon will turn them away, even if it's just a toy. ^ Post of the mother F'n month! This movie looks like Lego Zoids which can transform, while sticking the words "Transformers" in front of it and putting the famous names like Optimus Prime, Starscream, Megatron, etc. in front if it.

I never really watched Transformers as a kid, but I'll go see this because I support on principle the concepts of giant robots, explosions and destruction on a massive scale.
Your lack of attention to detail does not mean much in the greater scheme of things. Every kid who grew up with Transformers in the 80's knew exactly which car was what.
Well...not EVERY kid... But then, I never cared what KIND of cars they were. I just enjoyed the big robots.
The thing for me is that all the robot stuff looks so over-designed and busy, it's hard to make out what anything is supposed to be.
Wow. If you want the same thing you had as a kid, just buy all the old eps off of Amazon.com or something. One of the not so charming aspects of our wordforgian geekiness is the tendency to obsess over minor details.
Whatever company owns the rights to the original cartoons is wasting a great opportunity to capitalize on the hype of the movie. The DVD box sets of the cartoon have sold out and are out of production. They're nowhere to be found in stores. You could get them on eBay, if you're willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money, or get cheap Chinese pirates.
You should check again, if not already released again it probably will be soon Before the showing of Transformers I saw there was actually an advert for the original cartoon series dvd set.
I was able to get the Rhino releases for seasons 1 and 2 but missed out on season 3. So I got that off one of those Hong Kong based Ebay sellers. Actually the video quality is reasonably good... and you can turn the Mandarin subtitles off so it's not really a big deal. I know Scorp doesn't like the show, but to me Beast Wars was the best TF series. It had the best writing, the most well developed characters, running storyarcs, and it took itself fairly serious. I also want to see a decent dub of the Japanese headmasters series one day. The copy I've got now is a really shitty fandub. Galvatron sounds like some drunken Irishman.
I did check amazon, they haven't been re-released yet. You can only buy the Rhino DVD box sets through the aftermarket.
