When I refer to lowest common denominator, I refer to shows such as: Temptation Island, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, etc, etc.

I have no problem with good, dumb fun of the Benny Hill variety.

I would say you are getting VERY hot under the collar here. I can't imagine why.

Then you really aren't making any sense. What do MY opinions have to do with Jeremy Clarkson, or any other presenters?

I like tits more than nearly anyone, but is it NEWS?

No, it's an appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I'm not saying that's wrong, I'm saying it helps disprove Rosy's "Brits have sophisticated taste in entertainment" malarky.

I would say it's more sophisticated because Brits, and Euros in general, don't have the Puritanical attitude towards sex that Americans do. No one's gonna be offended by the human body.

Because, genius, YOU are the one who defended their attempt to show southerners as hateful by claiming that southerners try to say that about others.

YOU invoked the "limp wristed faggot" claim and then failed to prove either that it was analogous, or that it happened.

So now you are engeging in DD&B because you don't have a claim.

I already addressed the stupidity of Top Gear's" "humor" in this case, and that stands.

Now the question is, can you defend your assertions?

    I think not.

If it doesn't make sense to you, maybe you are simply not sophisticated enough.

Come on Shep, we have the dumbest shit on TV in the whole world. I think I know where Roesencrantz is coming from.

I watch a bit of british tv. The crime dramas are much better. The humor in sitcoms is more satirical.

but I hear Bournemoth(sp?) is their Alabama. :marathon:

Yours, of course, you are the one with the counterpoints[/quote]

I didn't defend THEIR attempt. I have been defending, to you at least, MY assertions. In that regard, I could care less what Clarkson has to say. MY opinion on the matter, MY feeling, is that here, on Wordforge, it is hilarious that so many folk from the southern regions will say the worst nonsense they can about the North and other areas of the US (And other countries), but when someone makes light of their region, all hell breaks loose.

Perhaps you misunderstood. Perhaps you didn't catch my references to what people here on Wordforge were saying. I don't know. But you're being completely nonsensical at this point.

Well, we all have standards at least :bergman:

Shep seems to think I'm unaware of where American Idol and Big Brother come from

I know where it's from. But I also know where it became a huge phenomenon and spawned many copies.

Shep seems to think that when I refer to "sophisticated" tastes, I'm referring to the idea that Brits only ever go out to plays and operas. He apparently missed my reference, early on, that I also enjoy having a strong sports club to take part in.

Shep has had a habit in this thread of only taking what he wants to from my posts, and then replying with great outrage and vitriol at perceived notions. Which kind of exemplifies my whole point for me, really. :marathon:

I enjoy a cornucopia of variety. When I feel man-ish, I wanna go see the Colts play. When I feel more artistic, I'd like to go see a good symphony. Thus, I want to live in an area that can cater to my broad pallette.

I can predict that Shep will reply with some post about how I know nothing about what Brit culture is REALLY like, or some such nonsense, and then proceed to screech "Benny Hill!" or "Tits in newspapers!" till he's blue in the face.

Berkshire was pretty nice when I was stationed there, but I do live in Alabama, so take that for whatever it's worth. Most of us down here don't look for liberals to stone, or gays to deride. Californians are still fair game, though! ;)

Truthfully, I lived there for a hot minute with Ancalagon. I met some really great people, but, ummmm, I would never raise my children there.

I remember a waitress at a restaurant being blatantly racist to my face. Not meeting a single educated, well spoken Black person or shit even seeing one. Not being able to even understand the Black woman at the fried chicken on the "Black side" of town and having Anc translate for me. Oh and dirt roads.

    Sorry Anc, but it's true.
