So what did you like in 2007? Books, movies, TV, music, art, theatre, whatever. What got you going? What CD did you listen to nonstop? What movie was so good you snuck back into the theater to watch it again? Movies: I actually saw very few movies this year, mostly because I didn't have any time. But I have a lot on my list and probably will start knocking things off after the holidays. I loved Michael Clayton and Knocked Up. Music: Loved the new White Stripes, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Radiohead. LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" was by far my favorite song of the year. TV: I'm loving 30 Rock and Lost. The Sopranos finished off a great run. The new season of the Office was kind of a letdown and 24 was brutal. Of the new shows, Journeyman was my favorite, and I'm pissed it got cancelled. Though with the writers strike, it's not like it matters.
Mainstream, nothing. The rash of atheist books, and Chris Hitchens Youtube videos were a blast though.
Head. The answer for 2007 is "head." The answer for every year is "head." We probably have a smilie for that, but I'm too lazy to look for it.
Movies: 300, Bourne Ultimatum, The Mist TV: Not a lot new that I can think of, South Park, this recent season of King Of The Hill, Season 1 of Dexter. Not a lot in new books for me recently. George RR Martin's Feast For Crows, when his HBO series kicks off I will be subscribing. Dan Simmon's Terror was good. Music: White Stripes, Modest Mouse, the Into the Wild soundtrack.
Movie: 300, Ocean's 13, Stardust. Lot's of ones out now I want to see. TV: Life, Razor, Tin Man, Eureka Books - Read a lot of older stuff, waiting for Fatal Revenant for Christmas.
Hard to think back that far.... TV: Heroes, BSG, Dexter (Season 1 AND 2), and Top Gear of course. Movies: 300, Transformers, Little Children, The Mist...about it, really. Books: Talk Talk by TC Boyle, The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perotta, Blaze by Stephen King, World War Z, and of course The Terror.
Movies: Live Free or Die Hard, Superbad, Knocked Up, Halloween TV: Journeyman, House, BSG Books: If Democrats Had Any Brains... Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice, Fury
Movies: Transformers, 300. TV: Californication, nuWho, BSG Music: Lil Wayne, but Amy Winehouse hands down best thing of 07.
Oh yeah, NuWho was cool. And Heroes. And Metalocalypse. And the new Venture Bros eps. And Sarah Silverman show was good for some laughs. Okay, so there was some good stuff.
TV: Journeyman, Pushing Daisies, Doctor Who Movies: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - The only Movie I saw this year, but I enjoyed it. Books: Nothing groundbreaking, but I did manage to read more hardcore science fiction this past year. Music: I'm not going there, I'm not going to be ragged for my music taste.
Games: Victoria Hoi2 doomsday NWN 2 jade empire was cool Movies didnt really see much TV BSG monk L&O CI kinda stopped watching tv but i also a m interested in bones and house razor.
Movies: Simpsons Movie, Bourne Ultimatum, Superbad Books: HP7, just finished the new Baldacci Stone Cold (Satisfying ending) TV: House, Scrubs, Planet Earth Music: Fogarty's Revival, Springsteen's Magic, McCartney's Memory Almost Full, LedZep's remastered Song Remains The Same
Oh, didn't realize Vernor Vinge won another Hugo this year. Have to check out Rainbow's End. His previous works are stunning.
Movies: Ratatouille, American Gangster. Saw some other flicks (like Shrek the Third) but didn't like them as much. Music: Though I haven't bought it yet, I've liked what I 've heard so far of Springsteen's Magic. I also really like No More Beautiful World from Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Books: I don't recall buying or reading any "new" books this year. I've bought and read some older ones (The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, for one), but nothing newly written or published.
Some of this stuff may have been released in 2006 but I only saw it on DVD this year. Movies: Children of Men, Fido, Hot Fuzz, Borat Television: Doctor Who (can we stop using the "nu" bullshit please), The War, Planet Earth, BSG: Razor Music: Feist, Bruce Springsteen Books: The Ruins by Scott Smith, Terror by Dan Simmons. Comics: Don't normally really read these things, but The Walking Dead series is fantastic And for the record, 300 was a steaming pile of shit. A classic case of Hollywood style over substance.
Movies: There Will Be Blood, Children of Men, Hott Fuzz, Juno, Superbad, 3:10 to Yuma, Bourne Ultimatum, Borat, American Gangster, Ratatouille TV: Pushing Daisies Music: Kate Nash
TV: um, nothing, it all sucks. The Shield was still good though. Movies: Mostly suck, but I enjoyed Ocean's 13, Bourne, Simpsons, Die Hard, Superbad, and Eastern Promises - I guess six is OK. Books: Land Use Planning and Constitutional Law were OK - close second was Evidence. Remedies - complete fuckitude IMO, totally screwed that book up. I did read Goldfinger by Fleming - is that a new release?
Well, the comic was all about style over substance. Not everything needs to be a masterpiece, you know. SOmetimes something can just be good, raucous fun.
Meh, I like even my raucous fun to have a twinkle in it's eye, and a tongue in it's cheek. Like Princess Bride, or Army Of Darkness, y'know? When something is dumb fun wrapping itself in self importance, it turns me right the fuck off.
I agree, I just don't think that's what 300 was. Different strokes for different folk, I guess. When I think of what you're describing, the first thing that pops into my head is "Snakes On a Plane", which I loathed.
