I was asked to work even though it is a holiday at my work. It pays good so I will go in for 8 at least. So much going on at my work. 79 hours in last week.

I'm off all this week and two days next week.

The only holiday pay (double time) for those who are working this week and next are Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Off at noon 12/24, off 12/25, back for the remaining 3 days.

Probably off early 12/31, off 1/1, then back for the remaining 3 days.

They want all of the salaried staff to put in a few hours at a call center over the next couple of weekends. $100 per 4 hour shift. But I suck at and hate being on the phones, so I probably won't do that.

I get accused of being a machine because of my diction, and I hang up on anyone who annoys me in the slightest. Not the ideal telemarketeer, I guess. :ramen:

Theoretically, Boeing shuts down this year from 12/22/07 thru 01/02/2008. Realistically, the IT departments NEVER shut down except for Christmas Day. But most folks in my department (read: employees) get paid for the theoretical time off, and get paid again (I think 1.5x) for any time that they actually work. Or they can take it as comp time (but only at 1x).

As a contractor, I don't get paid when I don't work, so I'm planning on putting in about 20 hours or so this week--a few hours this morning, nothing tomorrow, and "almost normal" hours Wed-Fri. But any work I do this week will be entirely virtual, so at least I can do it from home in my skivvies! :ramen:

Finally made it home yesterday. To the company: Thanks for the extra two grand, you incompetent beyotches!! :finger:

8 days out of the fookin' suitcase makes me cranky.

    At work now.

At work tomorrow, though I managed to get the morning off to play Santa for my little boy.

What sucks is I have seniority and I'd normally be one of the first in line to get time off, but the cancer treatments ate up all my PTO.

However, on the plus side, I'm getting double time and a half, free food, there's no actual work to be done so I"m just watching videos on the company laptop, and I only half to actually work half the shift, but get paid for the full amount.

So it really, really could be worse.

We're kinda stunned at the bonusses Mary gets. $5k last year, $6.5k this year. They must actually realize the office grinds to a halt if she's not there! (Of course, they haven't given her a raise in 3 years  )

Now, I've always considered our shutdown week off as being acceptable in lieu of a Xmas bonus and been thankful. But, fuck, 9 days pay is sure nowhere NEAR $6.5k!!

    Hi from work! GRRRR....

But I can't hand in my notice. We got an unexpected bonus - the daycare facility for our company finally called us after a 2 year wait to let my son in.

This is the most amazing place I've ever seen. All those corporate dollars really made a wonderful daycare. We can monitor the rooms from our office over webcam, they've got literally a dozen different themed rooms including a 'Poets Corner' (c'mon, they're two! LOL), art room, music room, phys ed room. There's a freakin' water park attached to the side. Language immersion classes, and built in educational classes including phonics. The teachers have higher criteria for working there than state law requires, the student to teacher ratio is less than half of any other place I've seen, and it actually costs less than the daycare that he's going to now!

So I'm trapped in this job for the next three years, because there's no way in hell I'm sending Jack to any other daycare than that one!!!

An amazing perk for working here. Just got to shut the hell up, keep my nose clean and make sure my son gets this care for the next couple of years.
