Download or no download? I'm pretty sure it's the former. Not many times I envy you Brits, but this is one of those times! Hope it's good!
It........ was good. In the vein of other xmas specials, i.e. a bit silly and over the top, but rip-roaring and fun. Good gags and lots of fun, but dont take it too seriously If you like Who, get it now!
Acquiring it now, but even with my broadband...ahem...ittorrentsbay are always slow... Says I have ~ 9 hours to go, but I know it will take less than that in the end...still, we're talking hours...
Not sure how I like the new arrangement of the theme music. Does anyone know if this is a permanent change or just a one-off?
I'm sure that's being kept fairly secret in order to keep the fans ranting about it for months. I prefer the old version, but could live with this one - seemed a bit more like the "heavy on the synth" Peter Davison version which is also a favourite of mine.
i didn't actually notice the change but then, i sort of regard the opening theme as the knickers - so the sooner its off, the sooner i can get to the good bits when they're big yellowy ones with skid marks, like ENTs theme, then i'm put off, but the dr who theme has always had a thong-like quality to me, so i can easily slip it aside.
I didn't like this special. I thought they should have named the ship the Poseidon -- They even had the equivalent of Shelly Winters in the show.
I don't like the new theme either. But I did enjoy the episode. It's was for sure more Poseidon than Titanic for sure, but I liked it... Not a Christmasy as that last couple, but it made me tear up a wee bit.
Well, that was shit. I liked about the first 20 minutes, but then the plot went all over the plave, with people dying, surviving, failing, succeeding, all for utterly arbitrary reasons. And it wasn't about the senselessness of death either. Too many characters with too little character development; too many explosions with too little story. "I am the Doctor, I am a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, in the constellation of Kasterborous. I am 900 years old, and I am going to save your lives." Quoth he, and then he failed. Bah. I liked the new theme arrangement though, and Kylie...
I hated that bit. It doesn't seem like the Doctor to just come out with so many personal details in front of a bunch of strangers, especially considering how hard it was for Rose or Martha to get anything out of him in the beginning. I suppose his recent encounters wih the Master and his past self might have changed things, but still... it was too "sound bite" for me.
I thought it was fun, no worse than the first two Christmas specials IMO. I particularly liked the part where all the Londoners were hiding because of the last two Christmas invasions. LOL. It wasn't up to the top quality of the show, but for a bit of light fun I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also I have a feeling we are going to see Astrid again...
My understanding is that it's the new theme. You noticed that too, huh? VotD sucked. It wasn't horrible, like Love and Monsters or Fear Her. It just sucked. A waste of my time and bandwidth. Notice how I complain about the quality of something I stole? I'm funny that way. They can have it back. But really: it sucked. Best parts of it were the new theme, Richard Bucket, and Kylie Minogue in a short skirt. Could have done all that in 30 minutes tops and saved everyone the trouble.
Yeah, hard to believe they would give her that name that is an anagram of something without it being important somewhere along the line...
I didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. I also heard something else about her that ties in with this, then I stopped reading because I didn't want to get spoiled. On a related note, the Torchwood season 2 trailer has shots with Freema Agyeman in them.
It was The Robots of Death meet the Poseidon adventure. It was nice to see Clive Swift in the Who universe. I always felt for him on Keeping up Appearances. And Kylie was a cute as ever.
