Before I pick it up, I'm interested in a review or thoughts. I haven't played a MMORPG since EQ2 and I know they've evolved quite a bit since those days. Anyone have some input?
Wish I had the time! LOL. One of the girls I work with is an addict though. I hear the realism and blood level is a lot higher than say WoW.
All I've heard is that it starts out pretty much solo to 20, then they throw you into the world with everyone else and all the battles are real time, as in you have to hack and slash yourself sort of like Diablo.
I saw a brilliant video of a guy on a mount camping a bridge, then kicking anyone who tried to cross off the side of it to their deaths.
It's pretty much like every other MMO, I played to like level 26 and got bored and quit. 2 weeks later they nerfed the class I played....Tempest of Set
I played it for a couple weeks before getting bored. It's by far the best looking MMO I've played, and the blood and fatalities are sort of cool. The combat system is more interesting if you're a melee class. You actually use combos with your skills. For casters, it's not much different from your average MMO other than that you use three attack buttons in place of an auto-attack. But, I found the combat system wasn't so interesting after a week or so. It's more interactive, but I found it was too easy to mindlessly button mash in most cases. When I left, there wasn't a lot of content for higher level characters. The starting area was a lot more enjoyable than the areas after I left. The opening area had some voice acting and what not that made it more interesting. Though, enough of it took place in a single player instanced version of the maps that I wish they had made a single player RPG rather than an MMO. There's a lot of instancing, if that bothers you. In the starter area, there's quite a nightime version of the area that is single player only. If you're doing the story quests, you're basically playing a single player game. There's also instancing for the other areas for cutting down on the number of players in one zone. EQ2 used the same sort of instacing in its zones. I didn't really pvp much. I'm too much of a "care bear", I guess.
Got a few mates that are addicted to it... they're hounding me to join in, more than WOW. There's no doubt that it's a great game (we reviewed it and gave it a 9/10), but with any MMORPG you'll already know if that kind of game is for you. I know it's for me, but I know I'd lose all of my free time into the game if I played it... and I really hate subscription based gameplay.
Well I've played just about every class to level 10 over the weekend, it was a very different change than the EQ mindset which I liked quite a bit though I always felt a bit limited regardless of my choice of class compared to all the random abilities that my earlier MMORPG characters seemed to have. I suppose feats make each character different in the long run - still getting my feet wet so I haven't played around with that much. Pets seem to suck, and so far my favorite classes have been ranged damage types - Tempest of Set and Ranger both are fun to play. I've yet to PvP, but I'm sure that is coming soon.
