I predict the Democratic convention will astound us with its boringness, leading everyone to delete it from their TiVo before it's even over. I expect lots of speechifying, some clapping, some insults directed toward Bush and McCain, Hilary praising Obama, Obama praising Hilary, Bill gesturing with this thumb, Bruce Springsteen to show up and a lot of network talking heads looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. You know, just like any other convention.
I hope you're wrong. This election cycle is bad enough already. I want to get some entertainment out of it.
It'll go up and down, like it always does. I'm not seeing $35 a barrel in the future, though, if that's what you're asking.
I can't make it to Minneapolis-St. Paul for it, and somehow I doubt the Campaign for Liberty's counter-convention will make it into the media. CSPAN-3 (the one nobody actually receives) at best, if current trends hold.
Eh, the convention is likely to be more of the usual $1.98 Obama-isms, which let's face it, is a pretty lame way to spend your time, so I probably won't be watching it all that much. I'll tune in to see what Hillary's says though, I'm sure her speech will be excellent.
Great speech by Michelle Obama last night. No Hilary Clinton takeover, yet, though. No Ron Paul ninjas either.
After all the months of people saying they can't wait for the convention there sure isn't much discussion on it going on.
They kicked it off with a guy that should have been jailed at manslaughter at the very least. Can't say I'm interested in the message of hope and change that portrays.
I can't imagine watching such a partisan spank fest like a major party convention. If something interesting happens, I'm sure I'll see the highlights on the news.
Hillary's speech was incredible. I think it was the best Hillary speech I have ever seen. And funnily enough, I found myself thinking during it, 'damn, she would make a great president!?!' She also did more than anyone could possibly ask in terms of trying to pitch a message of "unity". She's done her part -- it's up to Obama from now on.
I'm not watching it, but I would imagine the highlight of comedy is going to be watching Bill Clinton try and spit out a speech with a minimum of smarm and backhanded compliments. I suspect he won't be all that convincing.
No, really. I don't get it. I can understand someone hating both of them, but I can't see what's so bad about Obama that isn't also a problem with Hillary. It's like hating Burger King, yet loving McDonalds.
While Hillary did mention Barack at least 10 times, she never once said that he was ready or would be a good president. I'm starting to expect more of a Nancy Kerrigan play on Obama, since the Ron Brown option didn't pan out.
... Plenty of people like only BK or MCDs. Just because they both sell burgers doesn't mean they are the same. Clinton and Obama are not the same. And people support them for different reasons. Some women are going from Clinton to McCain...because they were voting for her only because she was a woman and they supported her for that reason. If it had gone the other way, there would have been Obama voters who would have not voted at all because their black candidate didn't make it. Eminence will have to explain himself, but the point is not everyone reflexively votes D or R or anything else.
If you can't see the difference, then I feel sorry for you. Clinton has substance. I happen to dislike that substance very much, but she has substance. Obama has rhetorics and a few lofty-minded ideals, but almost no substance. If you can't see that difference then, as I said, I feel sorry for you. It means you are dazzled by the rhetoric and don't see that there is no substance behind it. That said, I personally dislike them about equally, albeit for different reasons...
True, but she did say that she fully supported his Presidency. So either way, she bit in. We'll see if it was too much. Oh, and her speech was very good. J.
