Actually they were doing fine till they lost their defensive back. Texas just put it straight up through the middle from then on and busted right through his replacement. :garamet:

So OU has lost twice since 2000 and suddenly it's time to change the venue?

I don't usually pay attention to it, but I do remember Musberger or the other guy saying yesterday that Texas had won three of the last four meetings.

Yeah, you're right, I guess I forgot about one of those 05-06 victories.

Still, OU fares pretty well in that game, they only mention moving it when they lose. Personally I'd like to go sometime, just to experience the speculate.

They are ahead of OU in the ESPN poll. Obviously all part of Flashlight's National Media Conspiracy. :zod:

Well, the Cowboys sure as heck shut down Mizzou's offense better than anyone so far this year. Sure, the picks didn't help matters any, but I've gotta give the OSU Defense credit.

But let me tell you, that game SUCKED in person! Not only do they lose, not only do we get stuck in a section near the OSU fans (who were actually fun and well-behaved, and DAMN but are ALL their cheerleaders 4-foot-nothing-foxy-spinners?), but practically ALL the action occurred at the other end of the field! All of Mizzou's TDs and all but one of OSU's. And we couldn't see the big Jumbotron scoreboard because of the angle we were at, so we had to settle for looking at the smaller one, which was AT THE FAR END OF THE FIELD!!! :bang:

Oh well, Mizzou dropped out of the Top Ten, as I figured they would. Gonna take a great effort next weekend to top Texas, but that is what will be required to get'em back in the thick of things.0

At leastI got to see a ton of hawt college coeds in the flesh!

Ouch, if Texas wins through they deserve it.

The next 3 games are against top 15 teams, AFTER knocking off #1 and becoming #1 themselves.

Gotta think they aren't going to make it through Missou, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech unscathed.

If they even lose just 1 game and keep it close they'll be in real contention for the BCS spot.

Texas might get screwed by winning that game. If they lose now they'll be behind OU, Florida, and USC (maybe even LSU) with no chance of all of those teams dropping another game. They could miss the National Championship because they won vs Oklahoma. Now they have to stay perfect or they're out.

Yeah, if you're gonna lose, lose early in the season!

Mizzou will (Hopefully!) be dangerous this coming weekend. One loss is (often) forgiveable in the BCS world. Two is not. They win vs the Longhorns, and they're right back in the big picture, especially considering the rest of their schedule. They lose, and anything beyond the Big XII North title is a longshot.

MoulinRouge has an extra $500 in her wallet today because she believed in her Cowboys. :D They flat out made Chase Daniel look bad. Between this loss and his Heisman chances going down the drain, he's going to remember OSU fondly. :drunkfriends:

Tough shit. Whining about how dirty Nebraska is, then they try to take Des Bryant out of the game with that cheap shot out of bounds. Fuck 'em. And why the hell can't OU tackle on kickoff returns? Texas didn't beat them. They lost. They're a better team than that, or so I thought.

Assistants are one thing. Ditching a head coach over one season puts us in 'Bama territory, especially since he has a 82-34 record. If we can get bowl eligible this year, we will have gone to a bowl and had a winning record for 9 out of the last 10 years, with five trips to Atlanta in the mix. Not to mention he's beaten Alabama 7 out of the 9 times he's faced them at Auburn (six in a row).

The hyperbole-prone portion of the fan base http://www.theauburner.com/ is already anywhere from calling for his firing to accusing him of trying to get himself fired. The more rational people seem to be satisfied with Franklin being out for now. Nine good seasons and a winning record against all major rivals builds up quite a bit of goodwill.

Really? When did Alabama let a coach go specifically for his poor performance in one season?

Y'all are equal opportunity, y'all fire 'em when they're good and bad.

    Mike Dubose?

    1997: 4-7
    1998: 7-5
1999: 10-3 (including an SEC Championship)
2000: 3-8 (Told his contract would not be renewed half-way through the season.)

    Bill Curry?

    1987: 7-5
    1988: 9-3
1989: 10-2 (Shared the SEC Title with Auburn and Tennessee and won SEC Coach of the Year and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award)

But, because he was 0-3 against Auburn:

#1 - The University offered him a hamstringed contract extension that any coach in the nation would walk away from it, including but not limited to, no raise despite being the winningest coach at Alabama since Bear, but also it took away the ability for him to hire and fire assistant coaches. This was done with the express intention of getting him to leave.
#2 - Earned such hate from Alabama fans, that his home was vandalized. Bricks with hate letters were thrown through his windows and the running joke was it couldn't have been Alabama's QB, 'cause he couldn't throw that well (the joke originated with and was pushed by Paul Finebaum).

    Ray Perkins (Bear's successor)?

    1983: 8-4
    1984: 5-6
    1985: 9-2-1
    1986: 10-3

Three bowl wins and Alabama's only win over Notre Dame, but because he hadn't produced a National Championship, disaffected boosters and alumni delayed discussion of a contract extension hoping he'd take the offer they knew he had from Tampa Bay.

    Mike Shula?

2003: 4-9 (didn't start until a few months before the season)
2004: 6-6 (lost starting and backup quarterbacks and halfbacks early in the season due to injury)
    2005: 10-2
    2006: 6-7

It's a shame you didn't answer the question of "When has Alabama let a coach go due solely to his actions in one season?".

Dubose was let go because of the NCAA rumors that were starting to circulate, the fact that he couldn't coach a defense to do anything but try an arm tackle, and something else... what was it...

Oh! That's right, I remember now. The fact that he offered his resignation to Mal Moore, who refused it at first, before seeing that Dubose had given up on the position.

Bill Curry walked, wasn't fired... so that's a null point.

But I'll indulge you. The powers that be wanted Curry gone because of the national embarrassment that came from his on-air treatment of Prince Wimbley. Hard to get a kid to want to come to your school when the coach is seen reaming a fellow player on national television.

Ray Perkins, again, was a case of a coach that lost control/respect of his team. Additionally, it wasn't just the fact that he had a losing record his final year, it was the fact that a) it was the first losing record "since Hector was a pup" and b) the fact that he managed to produce a losing record with the team he had.

Finally, it was all but a foregone conclusion that Perkins would take the job offer from Tampa Bay - it was a better contract than Alabama could offer at that time.

Mike Shula once again - the coach that couldn't coach his team, and consistently made poor decisions. Anybody who was given the unfortunate task of watching them play could attest to this. From leaving Brodie Croyle in against Western Carolina to the offensive line trying the "Oh? You want to sack my QB? Why, just go on through" play, or no actions forthcoming on John Parker Wilson for various actions... it was obvious that while Shula might be a great QB coach, he was never head coach material.

See, I root against Auburn in one game a year... and I've been known to pull for the Tigers during the Iron Bowl, if I thought they would represent the West better in ATL. Furthermore, I am far from the normal Bama fan (hell, you're talking to the person who had alumni try to get me removed as president and kicked out of my frat because after one too many Bryant stories said "Oh Holy Shit... HE'S DEAD!!!") Personally, I think this state is big enough for both Alabama and Auburn to do well. Look through this thread and find something negative towards Auburn I've said. If you want to have a "Who can make more fun of Alabama" contest, I can guarantee you that I'll win.

However, when you just pull insults out of your ass like "if we fire Tuberville now, we're just like Bama", "oh Jesus, in their happiness Alabama fans are celebrating through exaggeration", "I'll pull for anybody that plays Alabama"... you are no better than the worst of Crimson Tide fans from whom you strive to show your difference.

Oh horse shit. You blame Dubose and Perkins for losing control of and the respect of the team but slam Curry for enforcing discipline by grabbing a player that's turned his back on the head coach and tries to walk away while the coach is reaming his ass? You think Bear didn't do that on the sidelines? Look up some of Kenny Stabler's stories. The Bear made him cry on the sidelines more than once. You think other coaches don't do it now? Bear just did it in an era before every game was televised every Saturday.

As someone who came very close to going to a school on scholarship and as someone who has had many friends send kids to school on scholarship, Bill Curry's behavior is EXACTLY what they want out of a coach. Someone that'll be tough as nails and not put up with any shit from their kids.

While the kids would rather have a Mike Price-like drunken strip-club hopper, the parents want someone they can trust to look after their child and a person that'll hammer their ass when they screw up.

Edit: And the reason for showing the full records was to show that there was improvement from season to season, but they got shit canned anyways.

Blame? Slam? Nope, I'm doing neither. I'm simply giving the full reasons that the coaches in question were let go.

Why... I'm pretty sure you just proved my point. That prospective players never saw Bear do it, Curry just got the short end of the stick by having it televised. Personally, I admired that about Curry.

Wonderful. Shame you still haven't managed to answer my argument.

Awight, I give up trying to figure out Maryland.

They beat 5 Top 20 teams in a row and blank Wake Forest, then lose to Middle Tennessee and get blanked by Virginia. :unuts:

Their only 2 points in the 2nd half came from a blocked extra point. We'll need the defense to show up for the first half to win the remaining games though...
