What do you think of the new "old" crew of the Enterprise?

My reaction is similar. The bridge makes me think of all those huge "war rooms" or "strategic command centers" or whatever in movies, with the humongous electronic screen plastered on a wall for everyone to see no matter where they are. Except the bridge isn't really that humongous . . . but hey, it might come in handy in tight situations. I expect the filmmakers will have a hard time coming up with inane crud to fill it with for background shots, though. Kinda symptomatic of a trend in the Trek franchise, I suspect.

"Kirk" just doesn't look like a serious Kirk in that shot. I feel like he's a . . . mouthy . . . character who's about to get up, stomp over to some crewmember, and deliver a deliberately farcical verbal beatdown that the audience is supposed to laugh at. (The MTV logo admittedly does not detract from this impression. ;)) The others are fine, I guess.

P.S. The Kelvin or whatever seems to be wearing football jersey numbers.

Make sure you score a clean headshot on me right off the bat. :diacanu:

Actually, I'm fairly optimistic about the new Trek movie. Other things not so much.

I'll bitch a little about this and that, but my ass will be in a theater seat the week XI opens, just like the rest of you.

First Contact was good time travel. And the Space Seed/TWOK arc was time travel of a sort, but then again, you can't get a better story than Moby Dick.

The one where the time line gets changed in TNG was a good one, Yesterday's Enterprise is the name I think.

Because of the picture of the pointy headed Romulan.

Here's a novel notion for you: Why does a Trek story require a 'villain' at all?

Where the fuck did you get that from? Saying I don't like the bridge = the movie should look like a 40-year-old TV show?!? Sheesh.

Like most of you, my ass will be in the theatre seat when this thing comes out anyway.

But I defy anyone to watch Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and take John Cho seriously in any subsequent role. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Hell, when Kal Penn played that terrorist in 24 I was just waiting for him to take a bong hit.

You're usually one of those ;)

I can only picture him with marriage problems

But where do you see him in the new movie? He's not in it according to IMDB.

Um, no. I'm usually the first one to make fun of Trek fanboys.

Of course Kal Penn isn't in the new Trek movie. Reread the last paragraph. In Latin it's called exempli gratia.

I'm excited about the new movie, so I'm taking most things in stride. What keeps me going is the idea that no matter what gets changed or stays the same, but I've been teased, enticed, placated and my expectations built over this movie, so when I walk into that theater in May of 2009, I'm not going to care who is wearing what and how many rotating nacelles the ship has, when I walk into that theater, the lights go down and the music starts up, I'm expecting one hell of a good story, and J.J. better deliver.

Now that I get a proper look at it, I can see what you mean. He's got the facial expression of Kirk just before he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and saves the day (with help from his crew, of course :D). Unfortunately the hairdo and outfit ruin the effect for me. :(

It doesn't have to be dark but damn those lights would get annoying fast. You could never look up without one pointing right into your face.

They've never heard of lights in the ceiling or lights that point up at the ceiling?????

Blue thing on the top looks like a standard blue deflector retcon. Beneath the saucer, you can just see the tip of a red globe - bussard collector, I'd imagine. So, I'm guessing the Kelvin is a single-nacelle ship. This is unfortunate for me, because I think most single-nacelle ships in Trek look pretty ridiculous (or, really, any odd-numbered nacelle configuration - to me, it ends up looking like a bad kitbash, no matter what - see the Futureprise from "All Good Things...").

From what I understand, the choice of uniform colors has always been subject to what colors the regular cast looks good in. So I suspect that Pine or whoever didn't test well in gold (seriously, with his build and hair color, I have a feeling he'd wash out visually), and so they found a plot-related excuse to put/leave him in a color he looked better in. That would be fine with me, and I'm no great fan of black

So much for the claim by the movie makers that this movie will fit into established continuity.

Revisionist shite, same category as enterprise.
