When I was little, the old timers told me that there was a guy on TV named Ule Gibbons that used to eat bark. They said he used to shit logs too.. until one got stuck! then he died
That's what I concluded from a quick Google search as well. But Alpo was quite vague in his original post.
Sorry...forgot all you guys were from Europe or some other place. They are a right wing wacko family of 18+ kids... Scary.
Yeah, God forbid we whale on dysfunctional family units that are so dispersed they CAN'T be numbered - that would be racist. Instead, we have to whale on the Duggards, a functioning family that works and has values and is together.
Oh, they have a lot of kids. What exactly is wrong with that? Not for everyone obviously, but if they can pay for them and raise them properly, I've no complaint. Of course, I've never seen the show, so I'm talking theoretically, not from specific anecdote.
There is nothing especially strange about the family, seemingly anyhow. A good friend of mine comes from a family with 13 siblings.
You mean these people dare to... INSTRUCT their kids and not let the state do it? How dare they! The arrogance of assuming that offspring can learn from their biological parents!!! String them up!
If you watch the show, they have an extremely tight grip on their children. They are home schooled, have limited access to media and internet. They are not given any other option but to live by their parents rules. Children should be exposed to many differnt forms of information so that they can make their own choices later in life. For example, because their parents did it, none of the kids want to date. They want to court. Basically, when a male is interested in a female he and the girls father make the arrangements. The girl does not seem to have much say in the matter. What female would want to give away her ability to make choices for herself?
Don't be such a drama queen. Take this opportunity to explain why their shielding their children from the world is a GOOD thing for their development.
Didn't say that. What I mean is that these people don't allow their children [and I mean the older kids] to learn things for themselves. They unreasonably shelter them.
It is their choice to make, and once the kids are old enough to be on their own, nothing other than their dependency in their family makes them stay. Does it give the children a full deck to play with when they get to the "real world"? Hell no, but it isn't as though they've taken away their ability to learn and to me they sound like a happy functioning family unit. I'd rather some parents instill in their children morals and values as a part of their upbringing than have them learn from the immoral parts of our culture. I don't know if you're a fan of Palahniuk, but his book Survivor pretty vividly portrays what some extremist religious cults can be like and I think that this family is quite benign in terms of their beliefs.
Well, most of the world uses that philosophy, and as we know the world is a wonderful place. Perhaps their way will lead to happier better children and adults. AFAIK none of their kids are into drugs, have gotten GF's preggers or have had run in with the law.
I gotta get me one on them Duggar girls when they get older to be my second wife! How do I reserve one?
Fair enough...I just find this to be rather extreme. I mean, chaperones for a ride to the movies? Not kissing until you're married? Seems a little over the top...
