Apparently the most played Christmas song (I presume in the UK) was Wham's Last Christmas. The top ten looks like this: 1. Last Christmas - Wham! 2. Do They Know It's Christmas? (original 1984 recording) - Band Aid 3. Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl 4. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey 5. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Bruce Springsteen 6. Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie 7. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard 8. Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade 9. Lonely This Christmas - Mud 10. White Christmas - Bing Crosby http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7754712.stm I was a big Wham fan when I was a kid but Last Christmas is crap IMO. Fairytale of New York clearly doesn't get enough airtime as it's at number three and should be number one. Stop the Cavalry should also be higher, although I only think that because it's the one song I remember being played at home over Christmas. A nostalgia thing I think. So my personal top five would be: Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea I only went for five as although I like to hear others maybe once, I can't stand to hear them again and again. What do you think of the ten most played and what are your own favourites?
I LOOOVE Last Christmas!!! It's such an emotional song. I did not think that a gay man could write a song eliciting such romance for a woman. Maybe he was singing it and thinking of a man.
Here in Augusta the most popular urban Christmas songs are: Deck The Ho's I'm Dreaming of a White Woman I'll be Ho for Christmas All I want for Christmas is The Charges Dropped Silent White Jingle Bell Glock I saw Mommy Dissing Santa Claus We Three Blings Boyeee To The World I'm ge-in' nu-in' for Christmas
Last Christmas is possibly the worst Christmas song ever. The first intimation that George Michael is a humourless, pretentious twat. I'm surprised Merry Xmas Everybody isn't higher, simply because it's been around so long! I absolutely love Eartha's version of Santa Baby, but then I worship everything that woman does, she's brilliant. And yes, Fairytale of New York is great. Stop the Cavalry is good - and, sadly, timely - but when it comes to Jona Lewie, I always preferred You'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties. Mariah Carey should be permanently gagged. Or have her vocal cords removed, for the good of humanity.
In my ongoing quest to inject some fun & Christmas spirit into this thread... [YT="Jingle Bell Rock"]YQXMT_QhguI[/YT]
I always thought there was something fundamentally wrong with the UK. Wham has the top Christmas song? That's just frightening. My preferences: Carol of the Bells Jingle Bell Rock Silent Night Little Drummer Boy and pretty much anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra!
My favorite version of the Mariah Carey song, All I Want for Christmas..complete with visuals from Smallvile... [YT="A Clana Christmas..."]Cr2XF-Szb1s[/YT]
I'm not a big fan of "secularly themed" Christmas music. I'm a big fan of the more traditional songs.
My favorite is Little Drummer Boy The Original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJJKZJm7-F0 and the duet with David Bowie and Bing Crosby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9KpNznVLlY&feature=related
