It was not a "permaban" (much less a "permabanned" - if that's a noun, maybe it would make a good title for a graphic novel: "The Permabanned - starring Yet Another Fictional Character He's Co-opted without the Author's Permission"). It was a temporary ban, and it was of a week's duration. Haven't misplaced apostrophes gotten you into enough trouble already?
Lot of people slinging the word "permaban" around today. If the rules say "don't post PMs," then that means "don't post PMs." Is there a need to list penalties the way it's done on TBBS? "If you post a PM once, you get a one-week ban...twice a one-month ban...three times, you're outta here..."? Is that what the membership wants or needs? You tell me.
You tell me...you're the one who wants someone who posted a PM "punished" in some way. Absent punishment, rules are meaningless.
Again, your word, not mine. First you need to make certain the rules are applied equitably. No mulligans.
Well here's the thing... We have rules...but clearly they're pretty broad, and vague, and open to interpretation. Let's review: For instance, you posted K1A's real name and were banned for 3 days. Baba spammed a bunch and was banned for a week. I said something distasteful once and was banned for six months (and have since said worse to no consequence). Polarslam said something similar and was banned for 3 years. Aurora posted K1A's real name a second time and is "banned forever." Hood did something and was banned for a year. Goldeneye knew someone who was banned forever and was banned. Borgs tried to steal back the board and was banned forever. Ted is a creepy stalked and is banned forever. Sometimes people accumulate 5 warnings within six months and are banned for variable amounts of time. So posting a PM...where does it fall on that spectrum? If I post a very personal PM loaded with personal information should I be banned like you - for 3 days? After all, it's my first offense. If I post a PM with two words lacking serious meaning and revealing no personal information, should I be banned at all? Warned? You see the problem.
Yep. It has been very inconsistant in the past. Hopefully, going forward Lanzman will be more mindful of how the rules are being applied. Or we could just nuke the board again and timewarp back 5 years... and start over... it is what Janeway would have done!
How'd that thread turn out? The usual? Kate-Mulgrew-Muff-Diver-Wannabes hounding in on how cliche the thread and mocking the stupidity of our logic?
Actually, a couple regular TBBSers have stepped in to continue to bash Voyager... though they are more polite about it! The legacy lives on!
Yanno, maybe I need to add this to my sig, because this is the second time in *an hour* it's been gotten wrong: I was given a seven-day ban. For linking to an open, unencrypted, no-password-required, anyone with an Internet connection could have found it site where a member of WF had mentioned his first name. It had nothing to do with KIRK. Again that's a seven-day ban. Not a three-day ban. Not a "permabanned," to quote Jamey. Seven days. Ask Elwood.
This would make a better thread than the current one, actually. If we all actually went back in time to November 2008, what would we do differently?
The short version: Kirk was trolling garamet, garamet thought it was funny, Aurora didn't, Aurora decided that she needed to be outraged for garamet and get back at Kirk, to do this she let slip some of his real info info, earning herself a permaban.
that's silly...well...more like dumb. 1. Garamet was okay with it. 2. If I can learn how to handle trolling...then anyone can. Of all people, you would think that Aurora would know. So, permaban? she's banned permanently? That's kinda sad...I'll miss her.
While we're on the subject, how'd Ringo manage to stay unbanned? And which members relative is in his av now?
never in my short years as a message board member have I witnessed such a campaign to restore a member just so people can troll her/him/it again.
No, WF, even the originally planned WF as a place for writing and art, was planned by Cass. It was just hosted by her brother.
Why would Cass start a board geared for creative writing? It doesn't make sense. I don't recall her ever posting anything she had written or posting any art or literature threads. I reckon it was a cover.
Yeah, she posted his first name, which was posted on TBBS. That was one shocking secret, let me tell you. And she got a permaban for it, how many others here have gotten permabanned here and why? Joker - tried to wreck the board, reinstated. Polarslam - Nibbles, others, reinstated. Ted - Repey stuff. Still banned. Borgs - Ex Owner, I dont want to go into it. Still banned Hood - Nasty to Elwood, reinstated Cheeky Monkey - Nasty to Elwood, reinstated ? Aruora- Ex Owner, posting a members first name. Still banned. A few others, I don't remember. It's not like she called a members employer (like Dayton has done) or worse. And she was not the ONLY ONE to post his name, just the only one to get permabanned. Which is total bulshit.
I'm truly sorry to hear that. I've been holding my tongue hoping a little bit of time would iron out the problem like it usually does but it hasn't. Cass is banned because she's politically unpopular, and you're hiding behind the stringent enforcement of the rules to do it. Kirk was trolling garamet and Cass spit it right back at him. Punishment should fit the crime and a permabanning is well out of proportion for that.
She's banned because she's broken the personal information rule TWICE. Her unpopularity has nothing to do with that, do what she did and you earn yourself a trip to Ted's Isle of the Permabanned. Posting real life info of a poster that wasn't revealed on WF isn't just trolling.
