I don't care much for the RL info rule but what's the point to it if you can freely do what Cass did and troll someone with real info they didn't reveal on the board at will? She was the only one with a 'prior strike,' I'm sure that the next time 14th Dimwit posts some RL info he'll be joining his queen in permanent exile.
I know. It was a life and death business revealing the first name of a poster that quite a few people both here and at TBBS already knew. And some have done far worse here, and been let back.
I didn't, and still don't, know it and I'm one of the old guard here so if it applies to me then there are going to be plenty of members who didn't know it. Whether Kirk is a complete cock or not, whether you like her/him/it or you want her back to troll it doesn't change the fact that there was a blatant rule breach. If an exception is made for Cass, at least soon soon after her ban anyway, what credibility would the staff have for banniong anyone else?
The staff learned it's lesson after the first Cass/Garamet fiasco when both were banned for three days. Yes Garamet it was three days no matter what you say. I remember. I was one of the ones complaining about what the hell is the point of a ban if it's only three days?
Cass/Aurora is banned because she posted personal information, was banned, promised not to ever do that again and was let back, and then did it again. Maybe I should make Garamet the board Admin and see how "even handed" she manages to be.
Perhaps some sort of parole/halfway house arrangement would be in order, where she is released into someone's custody....
I'm not too sure how garamet even comes into this discussion? Cass wasn't defending garamet. Nobody is. She sticks her neck out for no one and is far too self absorbed to ever get defended by anybody here. Garamet won't like that, but it's the truth. This is about Cass. And about how odd it is for a board to have the founder permabanned from the board she (?) created. Especially over a slobbering, humorless, jackass like Kirk. Kirk, who cried like a little girl about his RL info being used here after it was posted on another board, when he has done exactly the same to another poster. And I don't mean garamet. There is a small shelter thread on it, the opinion in it being, it was information publicly posted on the internet, and 'it's the RR, get a thicker skin or get out ' so it was ok. But since Tamar and the rep sniper dislike both garamet and Cass, and coddle Kirk, this was a situation filled with win. Ms Banana can be trolled freely with her husband's and her names, Kirk can't, and Cass is permabanned. Just lovely.
We're a small board, and should try to keep our membership intact. No ban should ever be permanent, unless they have done something way over the line, like Ted or Borgs, and even then, I'd let them back after a year.
Bans for revealing RL information based on the popularity of the target? Fantastic! What could possibly go wrong with that idea?
I don't really see the harm in letting Borgs back. What could he possibly do to the board now? And I thought Ted could be an alright guy at times when he wasn't harrassing the female members of the board. Cass should remain in the Fire Caves for a while though.
Cass is an amalgam of personalities that uses periodic bannings to punctuate participation. Give hir a break, every character needs a rest now and again.
Fuck Cass. And fuck anyone who wants to bring her back. We have few rules here and she kept breaking them. She deserves nothing.
He would have to post a link to it, because while there have been various issues crop up from time to time, I don't remember anything exactly like that happening. There have been circumstances where someone has accidentally said something believing it to already have been posted here where lenience is shown, maybe a couple of different situations are getting mixed up there? For the record, I think that the attitude Cass has towards the rules regarding peoples personal information is good enough reason for her to be banned. When it comes to Kirk he is a complete arsehole when it comes to trolling people like Garamet, however he does keep within what information has been freely and repeatedly given here. I feel no sympathy for him when his name is used, however my personal dislike of the guy has nothing to do with the fact that the rules here apply to him as much as anyone. Cass posted the things she did knowing they were against the rules, and was by her own admission trying to force Lanzman into allowing the posting of posters information by calling his bluff that he wouldn't follow through on the warnings that she would be banned for doing so. She was wrong.
No, not really. The information he has used to troll garamet is not restricted to what she disclosed here; it is publicly available information connected to her person outside of WF, which the administration considers fair because she revealed who she was. That ruling creates an asymmetry between posters based not only on their openness on the board, but also on the publicity of their real life. Given the current makeup of WF, this is a "general rule" that applies to exactly 1 person, garamet, who made the decision to disclose her identity long before that rule was known (indeed, before WF existed). I'm not saying the administration can't implement such a rule (I find it stupid beyond belief, but it isn't my call), but if we're going to retread the same topic yet again, we might as well paint a full picture.
Nope. He got un-banned when the old database was restored. I could re-ban him like I did Aurora, but enough uncertainty existed in his case that I figure a month to make the point should be sufficient. Commence howls of outrage.
I don't think the 'howls of outrage' come just because something personal is mentioned about someone else. The outrage comes when that information is used to troll. I could care less if someone here found out my real name. But, if they used it as a means to troll, then I would be outraged. So, the moral, then, is the exact instant someone posts the least bit personal information about you, you must immediately act to get them banned or risk being trolled at any unspecified date in the future.
What's the uncertainty? Did he troll Dicky with RL info, or didn't he? He not only got unbanned by 'mistake', he got a name change as well. When you're good friends with Tamar...
