It's hard to believe it's been just about two years since Techman passed away and left such a large gap that no one will ever be able to fill in, no matter how long WF exists. He was a gruff, lovable and pure Red Room in his flaws, but we loved him and he is still very much missed by those of us who knew him well. Remembering him, is also a reminder and a cautionary tale for all of us about not ignoring unusual medical symptoms. In the couple weeks before his death, he had complained several times of pains and symptoms that had many WFers literally begging him to see a doctor...he didn't and suffered a fatal heart attack. So, this is for you Techman...Tom.. to his friends...a great hero, a great friend and certainly a great Wordforger taken from us way too soon. For those who would like to remember or read the reactions at the time of his passing: http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=48969
Re: In Memorium: Techman I didn't know him as well as many others did but he'll be a hard one to forget, that's for sure.
Re: In Memorium: Techman This... is really really weird. Swear to God earlier this afternoon on the way to the Commissary I was thinking about my zombie preparedness plan (really just a SHTF plan but I daydream of it in terms of Zombies) and getting to Alabama, and then it went into how I needed either an old CJ, a Scout, or a Defender/Series Model for the drive in such a situation, and from there it went into the condition of any such vehicle I could find/afford, and then from there to painting it, which led me to Techman's spraypainting his Ranger. There was something about how he did the handles I was trying to remember, b/c the whole thing came off really good. Anyway, me and him got into more than we didn't, but he was a vet and a Ranger at that, and two years later is still popping up in my thoughts, so:
Re: In Memorium: Techman We didn't agree on a lot of things, but I always respected him. He left far too soon.
Re: In Memorium: Techman I'm not sure it HAD handles, ha. I have pictures of that thing somewhere... what I remember most is him carrying around cans of spray paint to touch it up all the time and the squirrel and goose images he had on the doors. mm
Re: In Memorium: Techman About that time to read through this thread again. http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=48969
Re: In Memorium: Techman I didn't know him well at all, but still ... he seemed like a good man, and someone who deserved many more good years on this earth.
Re: In Memorium: Techman He was a Ranger? Did not know that. He looks pretty bad-ass in that picture! How did die again (something about his chest pains or something?) Really makes you think.....I am almost 50 and nowhere near what you would call a prime physical specimine! :IMHO!:
Re: In Memorium: Techman As Tamar said, many of us advised, cajoled and outright begged him to see a Doctor. He wouldn't, and it ended tragically. J.
Re: In Memorium: Techman God, we've been here a long time. It is sort of wierd to think that he won't ever post here again. Everyone else who has left, there is at least some chance of them popping by for a visit.
Re: In Memorium: Techman I still get a twinge when I read an old thread and start reading one of his posts and realize who it is. It's still sad. J.
He used to come to chat every night and really shared a lot of himself there. In some ways chat was never really the same once he was gone. We used to have a great deal of fun teasing him and missmanners and their cutesy chat handles about how much they loved each other. He was quite a dichotomy in some ways...gruff and no-nonsense and willing to leap into heavy debate over things he was passionate about, but also very sweet and loving with a huge heart. He could also be a naughty flirt when he wanted to...particularly if you had red hair. I still think of him often and miss him a lot.
