Obama's remarks indicate he paid attention to the pastor. This is inconsistant with his past claims. :/

:wtf: Why does the White House have "faith outreach"????? :wtf:

Actually, this approach suits me quite well. (I'm part liberal, I know...)

It's a program that was created by the Bush admin back in 2001. It's essentially a community outreach program with the unfortunate habit of giving most of it's money to Christian organizations. Obama seems to be happy to continue that trend.

Wikipedia has a decent article on it.

Okay, if it's merely allowed religiously-oriented groups to do social work, and participating in the funding of the social work without any participation in their specifically religious work, I don't have a problem with that. Almost all European countries do the same thing, including countries like France that are about as non-religious as you can get.

But if it's just participating in social work, even if it's organized by groups with religious convictions, then I certainly wouldn't call that "faith outreach." That term means something entirely different, and the government should not be a part of it at all, IMHO.

Why does any church or religious organization need ANY government money?

What had Caesar to do with the Church?

They might not need it, but the theory is that if they have the same goal as the government (providing social service in an area), they're going to make better use of the money than the government would.

    They're basically subcontractors.

Going to the back of the line = going back to their countries and applying the right way, not being let in after "penalties."

That will never happen though. And it's a slap in the face to immigrants who did play by the rules.

What has been learned is "sneak in and be patient. You'll be legitimized in time."

"Putting down roots," my ass. Weeds put down roots. We pull them up. If they're here illegally, they need to be deported.

I know our immigration system needs to be reformed, but we need to enforce the rules. And that means deporting illegals (whether they have "anchor babies" here or not,) and fining the living fuck out of those who hire/exploit them.

    But it'll never happen.

Because the poor ittle-wittle rule breakers are just trying to find a better life. We should feel sorry for them, and let them in. They're only doing jobs that Americans won't do.

Damn skippy. Americans won't work for crap wages. And if the illegals weren't here to exploit, the companies/people in question would have to actually pay real wages.

This is based on the false assumption that companies have to stay in the U.S. They don't.

I like this plan, just like I liked Bush's (it's the same thing no?). I've never understood the slap in the face thing, most people I know who have had to jump through all the hoops think it is bullshit and are very understanding towards those who came in illegally.

Then again, I see nothing wrong with breaking B.S. laws. THE LAW means very little to me.

Let the companies go. But slap a high tariff on their products when they try to sell them back to us.

Plus - if we can pick and choose which laws we should obey, I refuse to pay income tax. After all, I'm just trying to raise a family and have a good life. And paying this onerous tax that is wasted more often than not is a real hardship on me and mine.

So, what I'm seeing is a President making a speech targeted at a specific group of constituents. Wow. Big news.

Appealing to faith in a constituency largely dominated by Catholics? Wow. Big news.

In fact, the only thing remotely of note in this speech is this:

It needed to be said, but for a liberal to say it, especially directly to a hispanic audience, took balls. I was surprised to read it, considering those breakfasts are usually just events to bolster PR. I would hope that it would show that there is a common ground on the issue that anyone on the political spectrum can approach.

Oh, one more thing. Go fuck yourself in your racist ass, 'Texas Rose'.

I think you're going to need to hit up Democratic Underground if you can't fulfill your desire for socialist dick yourself.

My man parts are reserved for innocent 19 year old college girls who think it's a good idea to get a degree in Art, Literature, and Culture from a state school. Sorry to disappoint.

Everyone's a little bit more retarded in Texas.

Kyle should pretend he's black too, it'll probably excite her more. There's a reason black on white porn is so popular in the southern states.

It's totally consistent. You see, he only paid attention when doing so would serve his political interests years down the road.
