For the record, I dislike Wonkette. Name-calling is not satire.

I smell blood in the water. The lady doth protest way too much.

If Caribou Barbie thinks she can control the public's view of her in the age of the internet then she really is as clueless as she came across during the campaign.

Oddly (or not) GVS was a lawyer before she went to work for Fox and yet a blogger considers a person who passed the bar to be "sub-literate" before expecting me to give a fuck what they (the blogger) thinks.

    Sumthin' amiss with that.

Hillary was treated like shit and no one came to her defense save for a few individuals because anybody who spoke out in defense of Hillary was summarily queued up for a lynching. Even many Hillary supporters, whom I would personally witness recoiling in disgust and lashing out against the attacks on Hillary privately, were too afraid to say anything in public, lest they themselves become targets.

Of course, now Hillary enjoys the highest approval rating in Washington so.....at least in the hearts of the people, the attacks ended up having little lasting traction.

What I think is also far more compelling about any Hillary/Sarah parallels is that it's the same people who attacked Hillary that are now attacking Sarah Palin. That I'd say then, if anything, just doubly proves that some little boys really do fear women in power. It's the same people, doing the same crazy.

Here is an interesting piece from Huffington Post that examines these very issues -- the similarities between Hillary and Sarah bashing.

I think this article makes many good points. The more that some shriek on about Palin, the more that a lot decent people come to Palin's defense. Not necessarily as a matter of politics, but because the recent attacks on her following her resignation from the governorship have been utterly repugnant and have many of us thinking again about the nasty treatment Hillary had to put up with. One could even say that Palin has received even worse treatment just for running for vice president. And so, while I may have more than a few disagreements with Sarah Palin on policy; I find it far, far more disagreeable how the media/the blogosphere/the chattering classes treat certain politicians, especially women politicians. Hell, even the level at which the discourse is set up is flawed -- too crude, too often defaulting to the base. So much for something different; I guess it's back to politics as usual.

Pretty much. Members of the Obama campaign made an artform of complaining-about-something-that-wasn't-actually-happening as a way to garner sympathy; to the extent that if we were to legitimately discuss using the victim routine to ride one's way into the White House, then that discussion would have to begin with the Obama campaign. They were literally a vessel for the disgruntled (all, of course, under the lofty cover of HOPE). It didn't matter what you were disgruntled about, all that was important was that you were and you should act on it by 1) supporting Obama and also preferably 2) using the fervor of that generic disdain to attack the perceived perpetrators of some wholly unrelated, totally imagined slight. This sort of "bait and switch" was then used countless times throughout the campaign; the accusation and ensuing lynching almost always coming before anything had actually happened. Consider for instance, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs on the matter of President Clinton and whether or not his supposed racist rhetoric in January 2008 crossed the line.

Now mind you, the Obama campaign, while out in public with the front that they were 'of course, not calling President Clinton a racist'; simultaneously issued a memo indicating they were deliberately pushing the narrative that the Clintons were using race-related issues. Nothing racist was actually happening, but the Obama campaign purposefully sought to politicize race for political leverage -- a trick that would be repeated over and over throughout the following year.

But if you ask Robert Gibbs now (when labeling someone a racist has served its purpose) whether President Clinton was actually 'being racist, did he a cross a line?'...... he'll tell you "I don't think President Clinton crossed the line." It's all very convenient and tidy really; the charge just suggestively slanderous enough to let suspicion do the rest of the work. Of course, you do it too many times and it becomes as Obama campaign spokeperson Candice Tolliver tried to brand the 'racist comments': "Folks are beginning to wonder: Is this really an isolated situation or is there something bigger behind all of this?"

For the record, here are the five things in that memo that the Obama campaign saw as 'racist':

So, it is as I said -- when the Obama administration is in doubt, when they are feeling overwhelmed, they will fall back onto their campaign refrain of "I'm being treated unfairly by these racists." :aurora: (Of course, pay no nevermind to the fact that hardly anyone is actually being racist.) At this point, one can only hope they knock it off before everyone figures out their MO; since it can't be good for them either to always be playing the race card. (The seriousness with which people take you is lessened if you're always 'crying wolf'.)

The fact of the matter is....Obama wanted to be in the White House, and he is there now; so quit complaining, quit bashing, and just frelling do something already.

Obama's team was smart in that they predicted a 'record turnout', which mobilized all of his supporters to tell their families to vote for him, lest someone like Bush be voted back into office. It was a super duper historic voter turnout event, so everyone even midly sympathetic to Obama must get off their rockers and come down to the pollin' station.

That is the crux of the issue: Obama was supposed to be the antithesis of George W. Fuckwit Bush. That is why he was elected. When he made that big, brave fucking statement to the powerful bankers about his administration being the only thing that stood between the bankers and the pitchforks of the people, I would have really liked to have someone remind Obama that some of those pitchforks were aimed at him.

My rant aside, I would never, ever vote for Sarah Palin for a position greater than let's say, a hall-monitor. Because that's all the dumb bint is capable of. She is a stupid fucking bitch and I don't feel like sweetening things up ATM. The only reason that she is given any airtime is because she has a nice face. Stop kidding yourselves. My mother, who speaks English marginally, could slap Sarah Palin around silly in a debate. Please drop this fucking fantasy of her being the salvation of the Republican party. Or rather, please DON'T drop the fantasy, so it can dissolve all the faster.

That being said, I never thought of Hillary as a stupid etc etc. Hillary was a conniving freaking bitch. Sarah Palin is a dumb fucking bitch. That's all I have to say about that.

Where are the Thatchers, when we need them most?

Re: Insane Sarah Palin, Late At Night On July 4, Threatens To Sue Entire Internet, Via Twi

Oh yes I am quite familiar with how 'Obama Co.' self-produces -- it is yet another example of the ''effect preceding cause'' meme that I mentioned earlier. Many of these 'predictions' though, came across as little more than scripts; downloaded, disbursed, and to be acted out as part of that evening's theater. There was very little that I saw of actual spontaneous, grassroots movement; and usually examples of such instances would, upon further examination, be found to be (once again) contrived.

The strictly choreographed performances, the controlled discourse (even insofar as how the dialogue can be framed), these are hallmarks of the Obama Administration, and you do have to give credit where credit is due -- the meticulousness with which everything is produced rivals even a premier West End play.

It's fine to offer 'participating in something larger than yourself' as a campaign sell -- the idea is sufficiently abstract to buy a bit of latitude -- and, in this case, there was the added sell of 'being part of history'; also appealing to be sure. But I wonder, just how much of politics should be rehearsed before it becomes fiction, before it becomes farce? Perhaps that is why now you have even Helen Thomas saying "No other White House tried to put this much control over media coverage" and "Not even Richard Nixon tried to control the media in this way." Even the Prophets disagreed with this sort of shit when they told Sisko "He tries to control the game. This cannot be allowed." :jayzus:

I think there is a lot of 'not wanting Bush (or anything reminiscent of him)' going on. More so than I think really gets any news. It's also been assumed that this Bush anathema automatically coincides with support for Obama, but who knows if there is indeed such a correlation, or to what extent.

Hmm ok, but I'm not sure what your point is here. Couldn't a variation of this be said about any number of politicians? The ubiquity of these sorts of criticisms I think precludes any serious importance. Also, I don't know if simply stringing together a few expletives, necessarily makes a comment singular or specific in its scope or critique. It may still just be useless.

Hillary is not at all the cold calculating person so many people mistakenly thought she was.

And Sarah Palin (whatever her other faults may be) is neither "dumb" nor a "bitch". Even if it meant giving up the Governorship (a job that had become a liability to her because it was being used to file personal attacks against her under the guise of 'ethics review'), at least she was smart enough to force the issue and get the mob off her back. I don't like that she quit either; but if she's not Governor, then people will have less means to harass her. She will be a private citizen again, and without any "ethics investigations" loophole to exploit, it will be more difficult to file frivolous complaints against her. The excuse people used to harass her is gone; and that's all i have to say about that.

I do not dispute this. I believe that this sort of methodical control of the release of information is merely an extension of what the Bush/Cheney White House tried to pull, and pulled successfully. You will never see me giving any more latitude to Obama than I did to Bush. Obama's entire candidacy and presidency remains, in my eyes, a manufactured attempt at 'change', to keep the masses quiet just for a little while more.

I maintain the opinion that America was tired of Bush and Obama managed to translate that into votes for him. I also believe that he will not have a very successful 2nd (or 1st) term if he continues to behave like Bush did. If Obama thinks that people voted him in because they liked him, he is in for a very rude awakening.

    It was a rant.

I'm sure Hillary would make a decent neighbor. I called her those nasty things because of her and her husband's links with the less than tolerable elements of society. If I may, I will say that I will never vote for her or anyone associated with her, because they are just so super corrupt and so good at masking it. I would have no problem dealing with them if I was in the mob.

I see absolutely nothing inspiring in Sarah Palin. Not as a conservative, as a woman, as a human being. She is free to do what she likes. But she remains, in my eyes, mediocre at best.

This was a commonly held misconception about the Clintons. Bill and Hillary (Hillary especially) are both delightful people, but for some reason, some people went on with the "But, but, I know deep down they are secretly evil! They are just hiding it!" It had no basis in fact and was largely perpetuated by people unsatisfied with their own lives. Perhaps it is this same misinformation that you heard.

I suspect it's probably not unlike how some people feel when they hear fables of the 'world's greatest (alleged) orator'...
