At least, that's what Elton John thinks.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/2859895/Elton-John-claims-Jesus-was-gay.html

Personally, I find the part of the article where Elton talks about how he operated as a super-sugar-daddy more interesting than the ho-hum gay Jesus "shock" claim.

Stealing a man's life and self-worth - isn't that what we have Volpone for?

So you have to be gay to understand compassion, eh Elton? Classic.

They've got even less evidence for this than they do that he married Mary Magdolene and had babies, then she ran to the south of France with the kids after the crucifixion.

And then there's that whole season where Jesus was in his John Pertwee incarnation that the BBC just went and taped over.

After all, he never experienced growing old, did he?

It says he was tempted in all ways as we are.

I suppose if one were a literalist fundy they would have to believe he was tempted to have a gay hookup.

But I'm not so it's ok.

Well, from my understanding, some of those books are locked away in the Vatican vaults under continuous Papal authority. They ought to release them. I don't care what's in them. Anything that would knock a brainwashed "Pentecostal Evangelical Born-Again" up along the head would be well worth it. I'm sorry people, but if you think God put you on this Earth to be miserable and fearful of hell then you ought to be Jewish, not Christian. Christian faith teaches that Christ died for the sins of and for ALL humanity. Accept that, and him as the savior of man, and that's the end of it. Otherwise, grow your curls, and go light that hideous candlestick.

Not sure what point you would be debating.

Jesus ever have a period? A pregnancy? A limb amputated? mental retardation?

Was he ever Japanese? Was he both too tall and too short? Was he ever a fat anorexic? Did he wear glasses? A hearing aid? A bra?

Did he ever have a car wreck? Did he ever ride in a plane? or a roller coaster?

If we are talking about temptations and feelings - was he ever a drug addict? An alcoholic? A compulsive gambler? Was he both lazy and a workaholic?

Clearly the passage doesn't require that Jesus MUST have been tempted to homosexual behavior...not that I think it matters if he was.

"In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. He says,
    "I will declare your name to my brothers;
in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises." And again,
"I will put my trust in him." And again he says,
"Here am I, and the children God has given me."

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted
    Hebrews 2:10-18

"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
    Hebrews 4:14-16

"During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek."
    Hebrews 5:7-10

None of which implies he experienced every possible thing a human can.

He was tempted in ways we all are though and didn't give in to it...and it wasn't easy even for him.

    Oh, how hideous for you.

The things that must do to a mind.

I love Hitchhiker's Guide, but I only read that once every couple years.

If I had to dissect it for 40 years, I'd go utterly blitheringly insane, and start caring what people on the internet thought of me, particularly dittoheads and libertarians, and crypto-fascists, and I'd get into slap fights with guys called Diacanu.

Not really...Jews don't believe in a literal hell. Hell is really a New Testament/Middle Ages taking things too far to control people concept.

Look up the Secret Book of Mark - its an apocryphal work that has a strong implication that Jesus was gay, though it doesn't state it outright. It's also of dubious providence, being a fragment of a larger scroll that hasn't been 100% authenticated.

But there is a scholarly basis for the old fruit's ramblings. :D

Well, he was never married, in a culture when IIRC preachers and people like him usually were. And he spent his time wandering around with 12 close male friends, one of whom was called "the beloved".

    I'd say it's at least a possibility.
