If you're not with Clyde, you're against Clyde, and if you're against Clyde, you're a rabid partisan Democrat who's with Obama. This is the typical level of "debate" on wordforge.
FAGGOTS like Elton John and ATHEISTS like Diacanu, Liet and RickDeckard will one day burn in hell and beg for mercy from GOD who they so ceremoniously defied.
IIRC there was the Nazirites which were NOT from Nazareth that were dedicated to God, never drank wine, cut their hair, and possibly never married, depending on their oath to God. Samson in the Old Testament was a Nazirite. (not that he kept to his oath that well ...) And then there were the Essenes which were noted for being celebate
He's gonna bottle a fart and send it to you in the mail, or maybe he's gonna light himself on fire on your doorstep. Either way, the stink will kill you and destroy property values throughout your neighborhood.
News to me. The Old Testament (Torah) basically says defy God and face damnation. True, literal "depictions" of hell a la Dante's Inferno didn't arise until much later, but from what I understand, if you're a jew and you screw up, you're fucked. Christianity offers salvation. In the Jewish faith, getting rid of your guilt, eh.... not so easy.
I submitted a short article from the internet about the Jewish lack of hell. Anyway, here's my take on it: what was the punishment when mankind committed the original sin (eating the forbidden fruit)? "On that day, you shall surely die." If Hell is the punishment for sin, wouldn't God have told us up front? BTW Adam DID NOT die on that day...he lived about 800 more years. That's showing him, God! Afterlife Olam ha-Ba (afterlife) is rarely discussed in Jewish life, be it among Reform, Conservative, or Orthodox Jews. This is in marked contrast to the religious traditions of the people among whom the Jews have lived. Afterlife has always played a critical role in Islamic teachings, for example. To this day, Muslim terrorists who are dispatched on suicide missions are reminded that anyone who dies in a jihad (holy war) immediately ascends to the highest place in heaven. In Christianity, afterlife plays a critical role; the vigorous missionizing efforts of many Protestant sects are rooted in the belief that converting nonbelievers will save them from hell. Jewish teachings on the subject of afterlife are sparse: The Torah, the most important Jewish text, has no clear reference to afterlife at all. Since Judaism does believe in the "next world," how does one account for the Torah's silence? I suspect that there is a correlation between its nondiscussion of afterlife and the fact that the Torah was revealed just after the long Jewish sojourn in Egypt. The Egyptian society from which the Hebrew slaves emerged was obsessed with death and afterlife. The holiest Egyptian literary work was called The Book of the Dead, while the major achievement of many Pharaohs was the erection of the giant tombs called pyramids. In contrast, the Torah is obsessed with this world, so much so that it even forbids its priests from coming into contact with dead bodies (Leviticus 21:2).
Well, Christians insist he never took a wife, and he preferred he company of twelve men. Do the math.
Ok, I see where you're coming from, however my take on the old testament is a bit different. You're correct. It's very Earthy. However, Moses was one hardass of a man. When he came down from Mt. Sinai with the ten commandments he enforced them with an iron fist. I mean he killed a group en masse for simply building an idol to God. Now, I'm not Jewish, I don't know where they stand on stuff, but I did hear a rabbi and a Catholic debating on the news about what happened to someone (I think it was the DC sniper?), and the Catholic was talking about how God forgives via Christ and and confession, and it was the Rabbi was the one who was pushing "He's in hell, no question." So evidently, some of them have adopted some idk "form" of heaven and hell. One other thing, I've always taken issue with the longevity of people in the Bible. I really think you need to measure calendar years differently back then. Additionally, our concept of time didn't arise until literally thousands of years later. So I'm thinking 80? I don't know. All I know is that as a Lutheran, I look at the old testament as a history book, the new testament is "my" holy book.
So did Louis XIII. But, he still managed to bang his Queen Anne into giving birth to the undisputed greatest monarch Louis XIV in all European history. The only one I can think of, that can really give him a run for his money is Catherine the Great of Russia. There is such a thing as voluntary celibacy. And Jesus was hardly anywhere NEAR an orthodox rabbi.
Yeah, but when you get to an Elton level of gayness, you're bound to see the surrounding world through jizz-colored glasses.
What kinda fucked up alert system is triggered by that vague criteria? Sorry bub, I want no part of that idiocy.
The text says "agape," which has nothing to do with sexual love (expressed in "eros" and "storge"). Not that it matters, except as a demonstration of the straws that people will grasp at to try to justify what they want to believe in the first place.
I don't have very well developed "Gaydar" but I got the feeling Elton was gay through his lyrics: "Hold me closer Tony Danza....."
Neither do I unfortunately. It makes "awkward moments" define my life... But I can point a lesbian out like a four leaf clover. I know, go figure.
Well, to know that, you'd have to know the mind of Jesus. What an incredible discovery, go collect your Nobel prize.
Not so. One only needs to know the mind of self-appointed intellectuals such as yourself - or at least, consider the evidence found in your pontifications. As if the Nobel Prize has shit to do with actual contributions to knowledge...
