About an hour ago an 8.5 earthquake hit Chile, earlier today Japan was hit, a while back Haiti... The Earth is fighting back! How much longer till California blissfully drops off into the ocean?!
Planet Earth is trying to shake us the hell off.....and this time, it's personal! EarthShake 2010 - starring Samuel Jackson, Philip Seymore Hoffman and Jonah Hill
Apologies but your typo conjured thoughts of jars full of Earthquake Chili lining supermarket shelves, with spiciness indicated by a magnitude rating. An 8.5 magnitude Chili scorches your mouth, clears your sinus cavities, seeds ulcers, chemically burns your tailpipe and then unclogs whatever drain suffers the atomic offloading. Not sure but I hear now's the time to buy land in Otisburg.
y'know, I've been thinking on this in the contest of Gaia... that "earth as living organism" idea. All the disasters and famines and stuff happen in shit holes where humans have been strip mining or over populating the planet. Seriously... Haiti has be laid waste for sugar plantations for what? 350 years? THe Tsunami a few years back? Katrina and the other what, 35 hurricanes of that year? Let's not even get started on Africa... the cradle of humanity has been getting nightly visits from creepy uncles for far too many millenia. Hell, California or Japan doesn't need an earthquake... the mass of people alone should snap it off. I would tend to agree that the old girl is telling us to move along from the parts that need healing. We can't keep getting her liquored up, tattooed and gang banged without expecting some puke and blood...
Amazing and possibly untrue fact..... The Chile earthquake was some 600 times more powerful than the Haiti earthquake, and one of the aftershocks (so far) was almost as powerful as the Haiti earthquake
Haiti sits on top of a major earthquake zone, and gets devastated every couple of decades or so because they don't build for the conditions. Chile also sits on such a zone... and isn't devastated despite being a more severe quake... Because they know its coming and build accordingly. There aren't MORE quakes happening... We're just more likely to hear about them now.
Most are saying it was 1000 times more powerful. The Chileans are far more prepared for such quakes, however.
The wave is scheduled to hit Hawaii around 4:20 EST. Obviously modifications by Barack Hussein Obama to the Cheney/Haliburton Earthquake Machine (CHEM, now CHEMO) have now turned it into a tsunami device that will wipe out the hospital containing Obama's real birth certificate.
Planet earth is not trying to shake us off; Superman is trying to shake us off earth. You remember the scene in the first Christopher Reeve movie, where he makes the earth reverse its spin, right? That doesn't make time go backwards rather, it flings all the earthlings off into space. Planet earth is merely trying to batter us a bit, soften us up for the kill when the zombie hordes invade.
Glad they like my work! I spent all day aligning that Earthquake Machine. It's not as easy as you think.
So if a tsunami is going to hit Hawaii, what about along the west coast of North and South America? An earthquake taking place here is no surprise, though, it's right along the edge of a tectonic plate, after all. Seem that a lot of things are finally starting to let go. Makes me wonder if that fault in NYC might be due to let go of some pressure, too.
Those coastlines are roughly parallel to the direction of the tsunami. A tsunami is devastating because as it impinges on a coastline perpendicular to its direction, the wave transitions from being a fast, low-amplitude wave in deep water to being a slow(er), high-amplitude wave in shallow water. This high-amplitude wave inundates everything near the coast. If you could find the tsunami in the middle of the Pacific, it would be a small disturbance travelling 500 miles an hour across the water and it's amplitude would be very small...like an inch or two.
I know ships at sea aren't affected as much by them, and might not even notice them, but since the earthquake took place off the coast, I was thinking it'd produce something more ring-shaped.
The California coast is under advisory, but there isn't a huge chance of danger or loss of life. We got a HUGE amount of warning time to evacuate low-lying areas. Asia will be in even better shape.
It does. But just like the spherical surface of the Earth seems flat on a small-enough scale, so do the waves emanated from the earthquake at great-enough distance. (See the yellow line in the graphic below.)
As sad as it is there are those who'll we'll say it..like I've posted before when Joy Behar had a guest on and they tried to blame the Haiti quake on GW and I'm sure someone on TV or a Website will seriously make that charge again. Hell I bet if the Earth was hit by a asteroid someone would try to blame Global Warming.
Didn't Danny Glover say the Haiti quake was a direct reaction to the earth being angry we didn't fix stuff at that last climate summit?
My Gov was testing it's new weapon system and the aim is a little off. They missed Argentina this time.
Not to be cynical, but if any of you are big fans of things like grapes, peaches, nectarines, and lots of other fruit this time of year, you're going to want to stock up on 'em now. I can assure you that you're going to see prices spike pretty high shortly, since a lot of it has been coming from Chile and they've already had disruptions earlier this year due to bad weather.
