Or some former employee who knows the system decided to cause trouble.

Most likely, the manager on duty during the ass-clown's announcement, also.

Of course, he may have made the announcement right after he'd been fired, so ...

It wouldn't have been racist if they had requested that all people leave the store due to there being black people in there. :async:

I've gotta agree that a current employee seems an unlikely culprit. Disgruntled ex-employee seems pretty likely, but it's possible that the PA system is easily enough accessible that it wouldn't need to be a former employee who knows the system. Random joker who noticed no one was watching the PA system may be it.

Apparently in lots of stores you can access the PA system purely through dialing a number on on the internal phone system. Given the amount of phones that are usually positioned around stores it is surprising that it doesn't happen more often.

    Fucking hilarious.

And come the hell off it with the bullshit about "bias crime" and "anyone who needs counseling". It was a harmless, idiotic stunt pulled by some dumb shit in a blue vest. Probably a teenager. If you can be traumatized by something so trivial as this, you're probably too delicate to live among other human beings.

It wouldn't take much for someone like Tasvir to walk up to an unattended phone and press 4 for the storewide PA and make the announcement. Did anyone detect the smell of curry farts after the announcement was made?

I agree on my gut instinct, then I remember that I'm a white male from a middle class background so don't really have the same type of context for a lot of these things. :clyde:

    I lol'd.

Stupid move that will cost someone a job (if it was an employee) but kinda funny nonetheless.

They should do deaf people next. :discuss:

There is no context that could possibly turn this into a grievous incident. Oversensitive drama queens should not set the standards for everyone's behavior.

To paraphrase what was said in another thread, if you're so troubled by this P.A. announcement that you need "counseling," you need to report to the pharmacy immediately for an injection of 50ccs of Harden-the-fuck-up.

That said, Wal*Mart needs to take this seriously and provide an explanation, if only to show they consider what was announced very offensive.

I seriously doubt this was an employee; even an imbecile would expect to be fired on the spot for something like this. I'd think it more likely some joker saw a phone unattended and decided to play a prank.

As I recall, in most Wal*Mart and Wal*Mart-like stores all of the check-out positions are equipped with a simple push-to-talk microphone that works thru the PA system, so they can call for price checks and whatnot. Or there's a phone, like Bailey pointed out, that can do the same thing.

I would credit Diacanu with a bit more creativity when confronted with that same opportunity.

There could easily be extenuating circumstances.

A group of racist skinheads come into the store looking for trouble and the store management doesn't think they can handle them and don't want to wait until police come.

So they ask black people to leave store to avoid a confrontation on the store property.

They did in the old days.

For the last 20 years though, only a selected few of management or store staff can make a public store announcement.

A dedicated operator handles the rest of the announcements.

Not at our Walmart. When I worked there (about 6 years ago), I could make an announcement right over the comm system from any terminal in the store. We also had 3 phones that, by dialing the internal comm number, you could make an announcement over the PA. It was VERY easy.

In my local Tesco's, there is an easily accessible desk mic sitting on the customer services desk right beside the front door. It has a single push button that immediately puts the mic live to the storewide pa system. I've seen them use it.

Any person could walk over there, reach over, grab the mic, push the button and spit off a statement before the desk attendant could stop them. Especially since the attendant is often around the back of a partition behind the desk, leaving it unattended for a few moments.

If this wal-mart is anything like that, any joe off the street could walk in and make his own announcement over the pa.

You could argue that by ordering all the black people to leave he was only doing them a favor. Seriously. Everyone get the fuck away from Wal*Mart!

Boycotting the store? That is so excessive a response that I can't help wonder if those two women got a friend to make the announcement so they can work towards a bogus lawsuit Walmart would be sure to settle out-of-court for some easy cash.

How a modern black person could be so traumatized over an isolated, mildest possible "racial incident" like that is beyond me.

If someone had actually made them leave the store and the store was clearly complicit I'd see it...but this is retarded.
