Re: Mosque to be built two blocks away from Ground Zero

Who gives a crap about the virgin birth? That's not what is being discussed. This is the entire problem. The discussion is about what Mormons believe about the Holy Trinity, not about whether a virgin birth is scientifically possible. You made a claim about what Mormons believe. Your claim was challenged. You posted a link to a source. It was then pointed out that the source seemed to contradict your original claim. Then, as best as I can tell, you completely changed the subject. Virgin birth? Leda and the Swan? WTF?

    And?

What does any of that have to do with the LDS' concept of a Heavenly Mother goddess-figure? I don't see the connection. :flow:

Post #111, Jamey citing the article I posted, without comment:

Since he emphasized “anything other than acknowledgement of a Heavenly Mother is speculative” to distinguish it from “The Church has continued to maintain that the Holy Ghost is male” – again, with no comment – one assumes (and Jamey has not contradicted said assumption) that he concurs with the LDS church’s contention that the Holy Ghost exists.

I’ve invited him, or anyone, to prove that the Holy Ghost is any more real than Zeus.

All of which has nothing whatsoever to do with Islam, except in that one may or may not contend that Allah is just as valid an interpretation of God as any other insistence on creating God in the image of man.

It doesn't matter if it's real. The discussion was about what Mormons believe. In particular, the question was whether they consider the Holy Ghost to be the Heavenly Mother.

    On religion:

All religions are based on assumptions carried forward by faith, with no scientific evidence to support them. There is no scientific proof as to whether God is male, or female, or asexual. There is no proof that Mary was indeed the mother of Jesus, nor is there proof that God wishes her to be venerated or pilloried. There is no proof that God wishes men to have but one wife, or many, nor is there proof that those who die in the service of God are rewarded by 72 virgins or are sent directly to hell.

In fact, there is no proof of hell. Or Satan. Or God. Or Jesus.

Until God makes an appearance and makes his will known in a provable fashion, it is the height of folly to insist that one religion is better than the other, or even that religious belief is better than none at all.

It may not matter to you or me, but it does matter to billions of folks worldwide, many of whom feel threatened by anyone else's interpretation of a deity.

And I was not suggesting that the Holy Ghost = the Heavenly Mother, just that there was room for a Heavenly Mother in the LDS pantheon. This is based on a conversation I had with a member of the LDS who spent considerable time trying to convert me. She eventually gave up, and we're still friends, but while she'd bridle at the suggestion that she "worships" the Heavenly Mother, she is as convinced that she exists and is coequal with the Father as other Christians are convinced of the articles of their own faith.

Now, granted, she's not an Elder, and in fact she's been told by the Elders of her church that she will never know the fullness of eternity because she refused to marry any of the men they picked out for her, but she still clings to her belief, as readily as some - not all - Muslim males believe there are 72 virgins waiting for them in eternity.

An educated Muslim, on the other hand, will tell you he'd much prefer one experienced woman to 72 virgins. ;)

Ya know, if this mosque was REALLY beside the NEW WTC site it would be a mega shitstorm.

    That's for sure.

You're out of your tree. This argument had nothing to do with what I believe, but with what the Mormon Church asserts and supports as tenets of their faith. According to your link, and any number of other easily referenced sites dealing with Mormonism, that church doesn't believe what you asserted that it did.

The rest of this is just your "business as usual".

OK, there is a cross roads and from all 4 directions someone is walking fast towards the intersection. They are Santa Claus, The Easter bunny, a peace loving Muslim, and a Muslim terrorist who hates Americans. Which one makes it to the middle of the intersection first?

actually protestants hold he's BOTH human and son of god. and as long as ANY ONE GROUP holds jesus to not be the Son of God you can't claim they all do. sorry.

there are plenty of nontrinitarian groups who reject the entire trinity. look it up. obviously most would stick with the Son of God approach but a lot don't:D

Yeah, so? I'm Protestant, I believe he's both human and the Son of God. What does this have to do with anything?

Which is why I asked you to cite even one Christian group that does not believe he is the Son of God. Why haven't you done so?

"Look it up" is kind of a silly thing to say to someone who has been studying various religions and forms of religions for 30 years. I know lots of Christian groups who reject the concept of the Trinity. This still doesn't have much to do with anything.

    Then name one!

Nestorian Christians did not deny at all that Christ is the Son of God. They simply had non-orthodox views on the nature of the Son of God, particularly as regard his being both divine and human at the same time.

I'm still looking for an answer on this.

Oneness Pentecostals accept the concept that Jesus is the Son of God. They disagree with others on just what that means, but they do not deny it. (I have a first cousin who is a Oneness Pentecostal preacher. They are modalists, but they do not in any way deny that Jesus is the Son of God.)

It seems to me that you thought you were smart for insulting someone who (you thought) didn't know what they were talking about, and it turns out that you are the one who didn't know what you were talking about.

As a general rule, if you are going to insult someone for being wrong, especially in a very vulgar and arrogant way as you did, you better be pretty sure you know your stuff. You didn't follow that rule, and simply ended up showing the entire board how ignorant you are. Days and days later, you can only manage to dig up the name of a group that agrees Jesus is the Son of God but simply has a somewhat different opinion on the relation between the Father and the Son.

    Pretty poor troll there, son.
