Palestine in the modern sense means something quite different than it did in 1938, and suggesting that jews who find Israel so unbearably crowded that they must move elsewhere might consider the lands of their ancestors rather than stealing Palestinian land is not the same as suggesting that a jew, in 1938, take a trip to Poland.

Helen Thomas may be asking for it by suggesting Israel be given up, because of course Israel does have a legitimate argument for its existence, but whoever made that video is a moron of the 1st degree. I mean, pointing out that 6 millions jews were killed in Poland and Germany, what is this the 1930s????????? Dear god, how pathetic an arguing point. I mean is the video maker suggesting that Germany is currently run by Nazis? Fact is that a great deal of the displaced Jews of this world come ancestrialy from mid and eastern Europe. It is not absurd to suggest that some Jews go back to their ancestral homes, which are more those countries, and countries like Russia, than they are the middle east. Thats a fact. To be honest, if the West had had any brains Israel would have been established in Europe and not the middle east. But then I guess the benefit of hindsight and all that....

IIRC, there were efforts immediately following WWII to return displaced persons to their homes in Europe. There was also a movement to dump the DPs in various countries in South America and in Africa.

The assumption that nothing in Europe has changed since the 1930s is apparently what Kor's laboring under, and what I was trying to draw him out on upthread. As a matter of fact, there is a considerable Jewish population in Germany, many of whom are post-WWII generations who have emigrated (though, not surprisingly, not in Poland, where the racism was even more virulent).

I wonder if anyone's considered that in addition to addled religious rationales and often not-so-subtle anti-Semitism, one of the reasons the West and particularly the States are "pro-Israel" is because the nation serves as a buffer in the region as much as it serves as an irritant?
