People put so much emphasis on superficial mannerism.

While you may feel that way, and I'll give you credit for idealism, ignore body language and communication technique to your detriment.

At the most basic level if you fail to make eye contact, cover your crotch or sink your hands in your pockets, fidget, or shuffle your feet; if you stammer, people will think you either are lying to them or don't know what you're talking about.

Beyond that there are little tricks you can do like "mirroring", copying someone's body language or orienting yourself towards someone in a group that can influence positively.

You can be the smartest, hardest working person in the world, but if no one believes you you might as well get work as a third-shift jizz-mopper or a telemarketer or something.
