I'm thinking ground zero needs a good southern pork BBQ shack right next to that Mosque.
That is the one here in Asheville. Its not good for you most probably, but if anyone has never tried it, they are missing out on one of life's special treats. By the way. BBQ is not beef, its not something you cook on, BBQ is BBQ and its pork. Here if someone says they are going to get some BBQ, that is what it is.

Its clear that this is more of the forced gub'mint equality bs, which isn't about equality, but promotion of one group over another.

    uhhh nooooo.....

They didn't demand an extra $20 million.

They wanted the $20 million up front. Smart move to prevent the government from jumping ship on the project.

And you've got a former governor complaining of how the Port Authority is throwing up roadblocks to the church's rebuilding.

Still, if the church people wants $20 million from the gubmint before they start building, and the mosque people don't, then it's pretty obvious which project is going to get moving faster.

I don't believe that they didn't have an insurance policy, and that it didn't cover the cost to rebuild their church.

    "Can I get a loan?"
    "Sure can. How much?"
    "$20,000".
"Alright, and what do you need it for?"
    "A car."
"Okay, a car, can do. I'll just need some collateral"
"No, and I need $5,000 of it now before the deal is complete."
"Well, that's... we'll have to check on that."
    "Vile persecutor!"

    Time to Stand Up

I think that this needs to be re-read when it comes to religion and 9/11.

He tries to salvage his argument in the next paragraph but fails miserably.

It's not religion that is the problem per se, but the fact that people are dogs.

That appears to be you disagreeing with him, rather than him admitting he's wrong, then.

    And people are not "dogs".

Yep. But for some the lesson learned from 9/11 is that religion is evil and should be outlawed. Seems a combination of preexisting prejudice against religion, an attempt to oversimplify the relationship between the West and the Middle East, and flat out stupidity.

Not that faith could ever be separated from humanity but let's pretend it somehow was, yep humanity without faith. Now what? Oh that's right we'd be the same humans we've always been with one less excuse for our natural behavior.

    What a victory ...

    They're monkeys.
    Lying monkeys.
Lying monkeys that don't even want to believe they're monkeys, so they make up lovely lies about really being invisible spooks with meat wrapped around them.
Also, the spooks glow for some reason when they shed their meat.

It's just what you'd expect a dumb little mammal to come up with.

Not much more sophisticated than the house-cat belief that vacuum cleaners are a demonic manifestation out to devour them.

    Load of wank.
This is some guys who want a church re-built using the media circus over the mosque to get back round the table and get their cheque.

I've no idea, you've no idea and frankly the journalist who wrote the piece has clearly no idea why the original negotiations actually failed.

The best bit of the article is the bit at the start where it says the two things are totally and utterly unconnected.

    Spaceships.
Eventually, dome cities on other worlds that eventually decay into crapholes like Reno.
And people will wear clothing with rings.
    Then rings will become lame.
Then they'll come back, but ironically.

Y'know, the religious never take setbacks like this as a sign that they no longer have their deity's favor.

Just like they never contemplate that their recently deceased loved ones might in fact be in Hell.

    Wonder why that is....

[edit - post #16]^Our cat's laziness supersedes vacuum cleaner fear, our dog on the other hand, well she's not so much scared as suspicious of the entire affair. She can't figure out why we routinely push around such a noisy device, I'd imagine the headlight is especially confusing.

You've got it backwards. The government wanted to give them the money. The church simply wanted the money upfront. Having the money upfront would prevent the government from backing out or cutting the amount given.

The thing is that those of us who do not see a problem with the planned mosque for reasons of being against bigotry, do so because we believe in the American ideals of freedom of speech and association, so I personally so no problem with such a place being next to the mosque because that too would ne in line with the priciples in issue!

For what its worth, muslims shops already sell a bacon tasting substitute. Not sure what its made of though.

Yes, I've got a feeling it is. The missus was looking for turkey rashers recently as she remembered them from childhood (even though she eats pork).

On my travels in the Middle East and Africa, all of the Islamic countries I travelled to had substitutes for bacon, hotdogs, beer, wine and so on. All of them sold pork and alcohol to non-muslims, except for Iran, which allowed the sale of pork to non-muslims, but not alcohol. That sad, alcohol is still allowed in Iran in christian establishments (most often those run by second or third generation Iranian-Armenians).

A shitty hit piece that doesn't at all go into why God is or isn't real, or Dawkins's arguments for/against such....

    Link doesn't fucking work.
