That is the one here in Asheville. Its not good for you most probably, but if anyone has never tried it, they are missing out on one of life's special treats. By the way. BBQ is not beef, its not something you cook on, BBQ is BBQ and its pork. Here if someone says they are going to get some BBQ, that is what it is.

They wanted the $20 million up front. Smart move to prevent the government from jumping ship on the project.

And you've got a former governor complaining of how the Port Authority is throwing up roadblocks to the church's rebuilding.

Still, if the church people wants $20 million from the gubmint before they start building, and the mosque people don't, then it's pretty obvious which project is going to get moving faster.

I don't believe that they didn't have an insurance policy, and that it didn't cover the cost to rebuild their church.

I think that this needs to be re-read when it comes to religion and 9/11.

Yep. But for some the lesson learned from 9/11 is that religion is evil and should be outlawed. Seems a combination of preexisting prejudice against religion, an attempt to oversimplify the relationship between the West and the Middle East, and flat out stupidity.

Not that faith could ever be separated from humanity but let's pretend it somehow was, yep humanity without faith. Now what? Oh that's right we'd be the same humans we've always been with one less excuse for our natural behavior.

This is some guys who want a church re-built using the media circus over the mosque to get back round the table and get their cheque.

The best bit of the article is the bit at the start where it says the two things are totally and utterly unconnected.

You've got it backwards. The government wanted to give them the money. The church simply wanted the money upfront. Having the money upfront would prevent the government from backing out or cutting the amount given.

The thing is that those of us who do not see a problem with the planned mosque for reasons of being against bigotry, do so because we believe in the American ideals of freedom of speech and association, so I personally so no problem with such a place being next to the mosque because that too would ne in line with the priciples in issue!

^A mosque that sells bacon sounds like a reasonable compromise.

For what its worth, muslims shops already sell a bacon tasting substitute. Not sure what its made of though.

Why should government finance the construction of any religious building?

Dawkins is an evangelical for his own religion. Has been for a long time.

Yes, I've got a feeling it is. The missus was looking for turkey rashers recently as she remembered them from childhood (even though she eats pork).

On my travels in the Middle East and Africa, all of the Islamic countries I travelled to had substitutes for bacon, hotdogs, beer, wine and so on. All of them sold pork and alcohol to non-muslims, except for Iran, which allowed the sale of pork to non-muslims, but not alcohol. That sad, alcohol is still allowed in Iran in christian establishments (most often those run by second or third generation Iranian-Armenians).

A shitty hit piece that doesn't at all go into why God is or isn't real, or Dawkins's arguments for/against such....
