It's like he wrote it with this place in mind. http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.co.../03/an-open-letter-to-conservative.php?ref=mp The letter is also massively annotated with links to every single point.
That string of words is a sign of a smug leftist douchegargler, to 99.99% certainty. "Reform" my dying, pasty white ass.
"We've got guys who are into opera, photography, skydiving," said Norita Taylor, spokeswoman for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers' Association, a truckers' group. I know they are human like everyone else but there is something humorous in truck drivers going to opera and sky diving.....
[action=Caboose]unzips his fly, takes out his dick and shakes it in the direction of the OP after a tldr moment.[/action]
Excessively dismissive, some of you. Some of the items in the letter are valid. But, then again, you could flip a couple of words and set this during the Bush administration, directed against liberals, it would work just as well.
Without arguing the validity, nobody who wants me to take them seriously will make such a shrill, condescending presentation of their "point."
I almost replied by taking a part and switching words to make that point. But then it struck me that if true, if left could be switched with right, the meaning is hollow, and the point of the OP isn't valid, because the whole spirit is 'right is wrong,' which it turns out is wrong.
This sounds awfully like another letter that the majority here seems to think was awfully good... In all seriousness, I'm sick of people trying to demonize their opponents. So there are bad Republicans--I'm sure there are good Republicans. So there are bad Democrats--I'm sure there are good Democrats. Let's focus on specifics and locality--how about all the people writing these letters deal with fixing things at the local level rather than trying to gullify everyone into following a particular emotion (disgust, rage, what have you) to an end that the writer is defining? As it goes, "all politics is local." So go bug your representatives, run against your city government, write meaningful letters to your local newspaper, actually talk to those people you don't agree with and tell them why--just quit sending out these stupid letters that are so full of accusations as to be meaningful. Pick a point and stick with it. Is it so hard to ask?
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.co.../03/an-open-letter-to-conservative.php?ref=mp The letter is also massively annotated with links to every single point.[/QUOTE] A. TL;DR B. Who the fuck is Russel King and why the hell sould I give a damn what he thinks? C. "Massively annotated" to the opinions of other left wing holier-than-thou assholes? So?
I doubt there are any good Republicans. Most Republicans, like Democrats are deluded morons. Says a lot about the population as a whole.
Interesting how perception colors reality. In the thread to which you refer, 22 posters (out of 100-150 active posters, hardly a large enough sample to determine what "the majority here" think in any case) participated: Four of them (three right-leaning and one moderate) said in one way or another that the letter was good. One right-leaning poster, without ever expressing agreement with it, argued strongly that the NYT was biased for not published it. Eight more or less right-leaning posters participated in the thread, without at any time or in any way giving the slightest credibility to the letter. One more or less right-leaning poster (myself) participated in the thread and explicitely disagreed with the letter. Eight left-leaning posters participated in the thread, all expressing disapproval of the letter in one way or another. Conclusions: Saying a majority of WF agrees with it when it is actually 4 or 5 out of over 100 is nonsense (not even close to a majority of the board). Saying a majority of WF agrees with it when it was only 4 or 5 out of the 22 who participated in the thread is nonsense (less than a quarter of the posters in the thread does not make a majority). Saying a majority of WF agrees with it when only 4 or 5 out of 14 right-leaning posters in the thread is nonsense (less than half even of the right-leaning posters expressed approval). This kind of generalizations ("The majority here seems to think that letter was awfully good" when it was four or five people) is a good illustration of how perception colors reality. And yes, I saw your smilie and the "seriously" at the beginning of the next paragraph. But you wouldn't have posted that as a "joke" if you didn't think there was at least some truth to it. You probably ought to avoid making sweeping generalzations that don't measure up to the facts. Kind of like the guy who wrote that letter...
If by that you mean WAY too long to even start reading while skimming the board first thing in the morning at work, yes.
Oerdin, you think of yourself all the time. It's the narcissist in you. You didn't need a letter like that to make you think of yourself.
Ugh, another piece of hateful tripe. Again we have a letter that makes some valid points (some of the hatred spewed around here is sickening and low), but the way the article starts is just... How am I supposed to take them seriously if they start by saying, pretty much, "I DO NOT AGREE WITH ANY OF YOU"?
There isn't anything hateful about it. It's confrontational, but there's not one bit of real hate in it. And if they really have their ducks in line, and their arguments are sound, there's nothing at all wrong with saying "I do not agree with any of you". It might be myopic. It might be narrow and closed minded. But it really isn't hateful.
From the comments on the original thread on the letter back in March of 10: Hmmm. That didn't last long, did it?
