That's right, EP! The fate of a business is completely unrelated to that of its employees. Get yours, while you can!
I did not. Employees don't pay unemployment insurance. Employers do. Many employees mistakenly think they have paid in for years when in fact they have not paid a fucking dime.
If you think for a minute that employers don't take into account paying the UI for an employee when calculating their wages then I have some swamp land you might be interested in. Same goes for any insurance the employee gets. Technically, the employee is indeed paying for it.
Yep. Every dime that an employer pays towards an employee is taken into consideration. Whether it is unemployment insurance, healthcare, pensions, 401k matching, Workers Comp, whatever the employer pays is factored into how much the employee is paid.
Unemployment insurance is part of the cost of employing a person. If that insurance weren't required, the employee would have a reasonable claim on that cost going into his salary. My employer pays for a big chunk of my health care but you bet your ass that's part of my entire benefits package.
Sure enough. I had a young assistant administrator show me a print out one time showing wages, cost of insurance, social security, UI, workman's comp, etc., etc. He was showing me how much it cost them to employ me. I grabbed a piece of scrap paper and calculated for him how many patients I saw in a year multiplied by the average ER bill, and showed him how much money they made by employing me. I don't think he liked it but he went back to his office.
That sentiment is usually shared exclusively by those who've never actually been faced with the choice.
but it's a part of your compensation for working. if the employer didn't pay it, they'd have more to pay you (just as if, had they not furnished insurance, you'd have more in your check and wold in turn be better able to afford insurance of your choice) In other words - never work - or work very little - no UI. thus, 'tain't welfare.
I'm paying back student loans right now. So in that respect, thanks to the government, I feel like I'm on welfare right now.
well if there wasn't employees than the employer wouldn't have no money ( made money) to pay for unemployment. so ya employee's pay
The only person on Wordforge that I am aware of being on welfare is Nightbird. Of course you don't really possess the necessary level of intelligence to know something like that.
Apparently, Pell grants count as "welfare", in Cupcake's book. So don't be surprised if Disability does.
Where was it established that Pell Grants are welfare? As for you, drinking vodka out of a plastic bottle mixed with energy drinks says it all. As for Kirk, when was the last time anybody in your zip code paid taxes? Tamar has mentioned taking welfare in the past, IIRC. Perhaps she has moved on from that unfortunately socioeconomic position. If so, she has my apologies.
^ There's no problem with taking welfare to get through a rough patch. Everyone who's worked an honest day in their lives has paid into it just like with unemployment. It's meant to be temporary, which all the invididuals you're mentioned in this thread acknowledge. Where's the hypocrisy?
In some cases user fees. Car registrations, tolls for use of roads, etc... In a very small number of cases it comes from charitable donations. Personally, I don't see a user fee as being the same as a tax since a tax you have to pay no matter what but if you decide not to drive on the toll road then you don't pay the toll. When I was growing up one of my dad's co-workers lived in Coronado (they call it an island but it is really a long peninsula connected to the mainland way down by the Mexican border so driving without using the toll bridge was long) and rather then pay the toll at the bridge he'd take his small sail boat across the bay then get in his car parked on the other side in a public parking lot. Personally, I would have thought that too much of a hassle but I guess he really just didn't want to pay the toll. I believe car registration fees pay for around 60% of Cal-Trans work (pay to build or maintain state highways, which this state literally has hundreds of, and a portion even goes back to local city or county government. No one has to drive a car on public roads (we do have mass transit, car pools, and/or the option to walk or ride a bike since this is a large city) so it isn't really a tax and instead is an optional user fee. Even actual taxes, like the gas tax, can be minimized simply by not driving a gas hog or driving less. One of my co-workers who makes about the same as I do, which is pretty darn well, actually is still driving a 10 year old beater simply because he only uses it when he really needs a car and most of the time he rides his bike. Literally, he rides his bike to work, uses the company gym, then showers at the gym and changes into his work clothes. He's one fit mother fucker too and he picked his apartment in Little Italy just so he could be near work (I'm sure he also likes that it is an urban neighborhood with light rail, nice restaurants, and active night life) so he could bike into work while at work he uses one of the company trucks if needed. The long story short is his old Honda Civic gets great gas mileage and the registration is quite low since it is so old so he gets out of paying most taxes and fees plus he really doesn't need a car since he lives downtown.
