I think Anna has a valid point. The programs, if we were going to have them, should have been designed to help them get back on their feet. We should never, ever have allowed these programs to be open ended and multi-generational.

it's still that way for welfare...if you're not making an attempt to look for a job, you'll get cut off. The irony, however, is once you get a minimum wage job (the only kind most on welfare qualify for), you'll get cut off almost entirely and make even less than what you'd get sitting on your ass.

Therein lies the problem with the system.

That link is right. But the FBI/Yahweh account underwent a change of management as well as a name change.

Did some investigating.
Currently Toronto hands out $560/month to welfare recipients.
Ontario minimum wage is 10.25/hr, therefore, 425 a week (360 after the government gets ya). Thats about $1700/month, $1450 after taxes.

Ya know? I'm thinking that if government gave business a deduction equivalent to that 560 for everyone on welfare they hired the only jobs lost would be social workers.
