Ok, not yet. I turn 21 in 3 weeks, and while I have tasted my fair share of alcoholic beverages, I know there are soooooo many out there I haven't tried. So here's what I want (besides your souls and world domination) so within the next 3 weeks, let me know what your favorite drink is, why its your favorite, and what's in it. As long as it doesn't contain anything truly gosh awful disgusting in it, I will try it at some point in the next year, if not on my birthday. Ready...GO!
You might want to consult www.drinkmixer.com for some of their very interesting concoctions. I want to try an "Irish Car Bomb"...fill a shot glass half with Bailey's Irish Cream and half with Jameson's Whiskey, then drop the shot glass into a glass of Guiness. Drink promptly before the Bailey's makes the whole thing curdle. It's an Irish boilermaker!
In order, my favorite mixed drinks probably are: Long Island Iced Tea--I like it because it's got lots of booze in it and tastes great. Margarita--refreshing either on the rocks (how I usually drink them) or frozen. Black Russian--I like the chocolate/coffee taste of the Kahlua White Russian/Colorado Bulldog--A Black Russian plus some milk or half-and-half. The Bulldog adds a little Coca Cola on top of that. While I like a good whisky (or a good tequila or a nice glass of Hennessy) to sip on, I like the above drinks because I can drink a lot of them quickly.
If I'm drinking hard alcohol straight, it's usually either Scotch (had some Johnny Walker Gold Label last night), Tequila (ditto Sauza Commerativo), or Bourbon (Jack Daniels). In the mixed drink category, I love just about any variation on the Long Island Iced Tea (I got totally stewed on one called a 'Black Superman' a while back), Mai-Tais (a habit I brought back from Hawai'i), and Mojitos. And a good Margarita always goes down well; the On The Border chain of Mexican restaurants has a Blood Orange Margarita that is just to die for.
My standard (I need a drink) drink is a double tall Jim Beam and Coke Zero. I'll sometimes use Sprite Zero to give it a little sweeter taste if I'm in the mood. If you want to get a little more complicated, my favorites are Long Islands, Margaritas, White Russians, and Bloody Mary's in that order.
If it's cheap, it's vodka, and if it's cheap vodka, it's mixed with Mountain Dew or some form of energy drink. Nothin' wrong with a Voodoo for a cheap fix. If it's not cheap, it'll be Jack and Coke or Captain Morgan and Coke. If it's not cheap and not mixed, it'll be Cruzan Black Strap. If it's drinking for a nice warm buzz instead of all-out floor-snoring, though, it's mead. Falcon Meadery is good.
I was a Scotch/Irish Whiskey drinker for years. But lately I've found a good bourbon to be to my liking. And when I say a good bourbon, I'm not talking about Jack Daniels, Jim Bean or Wild Turkey. They are the Wal-Mart of bourbons. Oh, and FYI... mixed drinks are for little girls, amateurs and homos.
For beer I've been on a pale ale kick. Extremely bitter - not for the uninitiated. Tastes like grapefruit peels. In Korea some people used to make a Flaming Doctor Pepper. Obviously it involves open flame, so there are safety concerns. :santa_undecided: Korean Soju mixed with fruit juice is good. Very strong, but you can't taste the alcohol so next thing you know.....BAM!
Mead. It's feckin' HONEY!!!! That, and I've recently discovered Gray Goose. WAB is correct. Mixed drinks are for kids, et al. Drink it chilled and neat.
My favorites: Jack and Coke Jack neat Crown Royal and Coke Crown neat Pina Colada (yeah I said it) Sam Adams Imperial Stout Sam Adams Boston lager
I'm not a heavy drinker, but my favorites include: Rum & Coke Margarita on the rocks with salt (especially with Mexican Food) Gin & Tonic Sam Adams Lager Sam Adams Octoberfest
More when I'm at an actual computer, but per the OP, favorite drink is a whisky manhattan on the rocks. I may start drinking sidecars-mostly because not many people order them.
Absinthe. It's been legal for 2 or 3 years in the US now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1035265&cid=TPV-Googlebase
pear cider, cant beat it for a refreshing taste not as sour as some apple ciders can be. maybe add a dash of vodka in it to give it a boost
Tan Russian The Cure Powers, neat All manner of decent beer (if you've seen a commercial for it, steer clear of it) except stouts except Guinness.
