Well, generally the kind of damage a mod can do is reversable...but it can be a major time consuming headache to fix if they go nuts...for example, it was a hacked mod account that was used to Nazi up the place back in year one. Undoing it required of hours of searching out and changing everything they did. If they start deleting things it could be a permanent issue. Admins can create BBS Armageddon if they are inclined.
Who advocated everyone getting a turn? 1. The Kewl Kidz don't like me? 2. Tamar thinks I'm worth considering. In all seriousness, if she was willing, why not? She's been a member of the board since 2004, with amlmost 2000 posts.
Are Kewl Kidz the new Eliteforge? Hell, at least I could identify five or six of the Eliteforge squad, but I don't know who the new set of popular folks are supposed to be.
If there were more posters to where we had a larger pool to pick fair-minded people from, I'd be for rotating the mods, but we don't.
Were they full mods? Or a step below mods? Because my proposal has them be full mods (not admins) with a set term limit.
Because this is a small board, with an even smaller pool of prospects to take on an unpaid position. When you have a huge number of qualified people lining up for a position, you can afford to do things like limit terms and enforce strict rotations. I don't think that's the case here. That doesn't mean you hang onto problem people. But when you have a person who's capable of doing the job, you damn well keep them there as long as they remain willing.
Of course Tamar is biased. So am I. So is Paladin, and O2C, and Bailey, and Clyde. And so is every key-poundin' sonovabitch here. It's part of the human condition. Don't ask simple-minded questions. Maybe we should do mods like they do jury duty: I just send a PM to the victim of the month and they're elected for a term. Sorry, you don't get to say no. Your duty to the Board comes first.
Granted, but other than tweaking Sokar once or twice, I haven't seen you use your powers in a biased fashion. Nor have I noticed anyone else doing it.
Then why is it that only Tamar out of the list, and you, is being complained about for bias by 10-15 members?
Actually, yes I have. We used to talk extensively in chat about all kinds of things, and she often and fervently to Elwood and I that she wouldn't want to deal with the nature of WF.
I think we need a new mod. They can be in charge of and dedicated to sorting out the new members from the spammers.
Tamar cuz you started it specifically about her, me because I own the place and therefore have a target on my forehead. Wonder what kind of response I'd get if I started a poll asking if people would like you permabanned?
How the hell did I get dragged into this shitstorm? It would serve the whiners right. Fortunately, even if someone was mental/stupid enough to ask, it wouldn't happen. Not even out of curiosity to read the staff room. I learned my lesso when I accepted my last board post back in September 2004. It's much more fun and less stressful to just be a member. Now as for Tamar (I've not read but one page of the other thread, and that was a day or so ago), she has done a good job here and I think that WF has been good for her, letting her see the other side of the fence. I also think she was good for WF, a constant stabilizing presence throughout the years. Tamar is learning what anyone with authority, be it real life or the small potatoes Internet stuff, learns, that once you have any authority, your popularity necessarily declines because some people don't like authority, others are jealous and you sometimes have to be the bad guy. Word of advice though, Tamar, don't post threads like that other one. You just aim your opponents' weapons for them. Do your best and don't worry about a minority who don't like what you do. Trust me, if you are fucking up things, the owner will be the one letting you know that there is an issue. And while a thread like yours shows heartening support from those who do like what you do, it will also bring out those who will enjoy saying ugly things to try to hurt you. Don't show vulnerability or some will eat you alive. Bonz, survivor
Actually, if I recall correctly, I think $corp already volunteered for that. Which, btw, I still haven't decided about. It's a good idea in principle, as sorting thru the new user registrations is a pain in the tuchas, but it means another set of fingers on the Admin panel.
