So if voter ID laws suppress poor people and minorities, how do poor people and minorities: obtain a bank account obtain a credit card write a check make a credit card purchase apply for a loan purchase anything prove your age receive a marriage license drive buy a house close on a house get medical care get on a plane get insurance on anything get a job get a post office box get a hunting license get a fishing license get a business license cash a paycheck rent an apartment rent a hotel room rent a car rent furniture receive social security receive food stamps buy cigarettes buy alcohol buy a cell phone go into a casino go into a bar go to college have your water turned on have your electricity turned on have your cable turned on have your gas turned on obtain trash pick up service pick up a package from the post office pick up a package from fed ex pick up a package from ups pick up a prescription ?
Some of these crack me up. buy cigarettes buy alcohol buy a cell phone go into a casino go into a bar go to college have your water turned on have your electricity turned on have your cable turned on have your gas turned on I never needed ID for the last four. And Skrain knows nothing about the hood.
Skrain knows nothing about a whole lot. Of course, he may be from one of those oppressive "T" states. According to Muad and LizK, in Tennessee and Texas you have to present a photo ID to do just about everything except take a piss: http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=92930 Meanwhile, in the Real World, this sort of thing happens: http://vimeo.com/couchmode/user9013478/videos/sort:date/46829744
Can't get an EBT card without a Social Security Number. Can't get a Social Security Number without a birth certificate. Getting a State ID card requires a birth certificate. So it follows if one has an EBT card one has the means to get a State ID card.
I opened a new checking account a couple of weeks ago and had to show 2 forms of ID. I used my Drivers License and Handgun Carry Permit. Both are photo ID's.
Oh, nononononononononononononononoNO, now! Oh, nononononononononononononononoNO, n If you're an illegal alien, dead, a felon, or anyone who otherwise is not eligible to vote? Being asked for identification to prove that you're eligible to vote when you're not eligible? Why, that's RACIST! Didn't you know? 'Ineligible to vote' is a RACE now! It is! Corpsified, felon, non-citizen, all of them are Democrats, and that makes them a RACE! And we mustn't EVER prevent non-eligible DEMOCRATS from voting, don't you know! Why mustn't we? Because if they had to rely on only the votes from living, eligible people who actually fall for their BULL SHIT, they'd LOSE.
That's why ONLY the Demmunists are bitching and moaning and crying and stamping their little girlie feet about Voter ID laws. Because only the Demmunists are benefiting from illegal votes. That's it. There's the whole reason. That's why you don't hear Republitards bitching about efforts to legitimize the voting process. Because they're not the ones who are cheating. The Demmunists are. And the Demmunists want to go on cheating. And voter ID laws threaten their cheating, so it only naturally follows that they're throwing a bitch fit over Voter ID laws. Y'all are busted. Flat, done, finalized fuckin' busted.
Short answer to Skrain is that a lot of poor people aren't able to get much of what's on the list. Some don't want them to vote either.
Obama just gives them all these things, or does them for these people. Maybe NJ is different, but I had to prove ID to get these things.
Fascinating. This stuff sounds downright Orwellian. We have ID cards in Germany, of course, but we don't need them for 95% of the stuff listed here. So if Americans keep having to show ID to everyone they meet, why are so many of you convinced that having ID cards is a step towards totalitarianism?
I've only at most intermittently needed ID for any of these. Well, never bought cigarettes, but if you're obviously old enough, stores will sell. And prepaid cell phones can be paid for in cash. I am somewhat concerned, in retrospect, that I haven't usually needed ID to pick up a prescription. I'm not at any pharmacy often enough for them to know who I am.
When I get an apartment. The landlord makes sure the utilities are on. Or I call up and tell utility companies I am moving and where. They then resume billing me from there. Show ID to who??? When??? Its done over the phone.
What state are you in, again? Must be a Southern thing. I've never had to provide a photo ID for any of those things in either NY or CA, and I've never heard of this "I've gotta show photo ID for EVERYTHING!!!11!" howl anywhere except WF. This^. Investigations during the Bush administration uncovered 86 cases of fraud out of 300,000,000 votes cast, not one of which was a case of someone providing a false identity.
Skrain knows that when you're poor, you don't really go to many hotels, get a hunting license, fly much, buy tons of houses or apply for loans. Right? Skrain knows that, yes? Well, Skrain is probably 17 and about to start his junior year of high school, so Skrain probably doesn't know a lot about a lot. Last night I went to an R rated movie and I wasn't asked for my ID!!!! Fraud potential!!!
Your list is beyond idiotic. I've separated them into "always", "sometimes", and "never" based on my own personal experience. Many of course, do not apply... Always obtain a bank account apply for a loan purchase anything receive a marriage license drive (I'm assuming you mean get a drivers license) close on a house prove your age Sometimes obtain a credit card write a check make a credit card purchase get a job cash a paycheck rent an apartment buy cigarettes buy alcohol Never get medical care get on a plane get insurance on anything get a post office box rent a hotel room buy a cell phone go into a casino go into a bar go to college have your water turned on have your electricity turned on have your cable turned on have your gas turned on obtain trash pick up service pick up a package from the post office pick up a prescription N/A get a hunting license get a fishing license get a business license rent a car rent furniture receive social security receive food stamps pick up a package from fed ex pick up a package from ups
In PA a Judge upheld the state's Voter ID and the planned appeal by those opposed was thrown a monkey wrench when the lead Plaintiff in the case was able to get a photo ID with no problem. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/state/lead-plaintiff-in-voter-id-case-gets-id-649445/
Well, of course, never mind that the stated goal in Pennsylvania was to use the new law to ensure Romney's election. “Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.” LINK Oh, how about Florida where the former party chairman said that was the goal in that state as well? On voter suppression, Greer said he had just completed a December 2009 meeting with party general counsel Jason Gonzalez, political consultant Jim Rimes and Eric Eikenberg, Crist's chief of staff, when questions arose about fundraising. "I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting. It had been one of those days,'' he said. LINK Of course if you hate Obama enough, anything that works is fair game.
And I'm sure you're laughing because you're happy that this 93-year-old wheelchair-bound lady was able to exercise her franchise, and that the surrounding publicity means that the process of obtaining a photo ID, in Pennsylvania, at least, will be that much easier for those who were barred before. Or are you just laughing because you're a small-minded, vindictive S.O.B. whose only joy is Schadenfreude at other people's disenfranchisement? Do tell.
Reminds me of the young lady from Texas who testified before Congress on behalf of the DOJ that her parents did not have time to take her to get a voter ID.
Never get medical care - WTF? They have to see if you have insurance, and if not who to send the bill to. get on a plane - WTF times infinity!? Using an e-ticket the name on your picture ID must be an exact match as stated on the ticket or you don't fly. get insurance on anything - done over the phone WITH your Social Security number and car registration, which required ID to get these. get a post office box - I had to show ID in 2000 - maybe that has changed. rent a hotel room - WTF? You reserve over the phone with your bank card and must show ID when you arrive at the hotel. buy a cell phone - did not show, but it's a "no contract" cheapo. go into a casino - not to enter, but start winning and see how fast they check for an I.D. go into a bar - don't go to bars, so you may be right. go to college - my kid had to provide mucho I.D. one year ago. Has that changed already? have your water turned on have your electricity turned on have your cable turned on have your gas turned on obtain trash pick up service pick up a package from the post office pick up a prescription
