Heard an interesting religious claim the other day.

First, I would like to point out that the initial point was supposed to be a joke.

Sorry, dear for ruining your punch line

But I feel like you all would feel a tad bit different if you knew the rest of the conversation.

The point is that you're a bad Christian.

Every Christian is a bad Christian.

The point is, that doesn't matter.

Because as long as you chant the magic words "I accept Jesus as my Personal Savior," you can live your life in direct contradiction to everything he taught, but you're still saved. At least that seems to be apostle's M.O.

Thanks for putting in print what I've always suspected.

What a weird thing to say. That's been put down in print in various forms for almost two thousand years. It's a central tenet of the religion.

So if saying "I'm a Christian" doesn't affect your behavior, it's essentially meaningless.

What ever happened to "and the second is like unto it"?

Hit the nail on the head, lady.

At best, that's an unsupportable logical leap from "all Christians are bad Christians". At worst, it's a deliberate strawman.

What might apostle83 be like if he were NOT a Christian?

Aside from choosing a different username, not materially different. Unless you'd like to argue that being a Christian is the only thing keeping him from going postal. Hard for you to do that having said "it doesn't matter."

I think you're having an intellectual struggle with what exactly I am claiming "doesn't matter".

Unless you are somehow making the argument that Christianity as a religion expects its adherents to be perfect.

Not perfect. Just, yanno, giving some indication that they weren't so busy scratching their balls that they didn't hear that "and the second is like unto it" bit.

I don't believe the truth of your comment.

The totality of your posts on the topic back up my assertion that you think if someone is not being a 100% perfect Christian then they are the worst sort of hypocrite.

Well guess what? We're all sinners. Our own religion says so. I am totally uninterested in being held to a higher standard by outsiders than I am held to by my own. I am sure apostle83 feels the same way.

I figure he cares about as much for Judaism as he does for Christianity. The snappy comeback is meaningless in that context.

If this is his schtick, I want my nickle back... fuck, I'd rather listen to Nickleback.

Kind of a weird way to organize a religion, basing it all on a get out of jail free card.

Which would be fine, if so much effort weren't placed on controlling others by many adherents. And apparently that's just how it's meant to be, because "the point is that it doesn't matter" how Christians behave.

That's a pretty bold conclusion considering the 3 or 4 posts he's made. I think his point was that millions of Christians weren't killed in mass and her complaint was incredibly whiny and self-centered, particularly in comparison.

    That wasn't even clever.

Coming to a conclusion about me based on maybe three posts that don't mention my own beliefs is SOOOOO open-minded.

Please. I've shit on better trolls than this.

    That's NOT what I said.

I said we're all "Bad Christians", and it doesn't matter. I never said "it doesn't matter" "how Christians behave".

    It's still nonsense.

She said Christians were the most ridiculed and he comes back with some unfunny remark because Jews are the most persecuted?

It's apples and oranges. The attempted "gotcha" simply fails as it doesn't compare.

Then I'm sure you can link to at least one post in which I said exactly that.

Then again, if you were being honest, you'd acknowledge that the only time I cite anyone for being unChristian is when they're acting in direct contradiction to what Jesus said. Say, spewing racial slurs, like this guy:

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2308528&postcount=47

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2301710&postcount=394

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2301308&postcount=3

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2280205&postcount=9

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2203641&postcount=288

Or just being generally charming, like this guy:

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2305420&postcount=42

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2307090&postcount=21

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2308527&postcount=6

    http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=2314687&postcount=92

You want to do something useful? Try reconciling that trash with Matthew 22:39.

Or just do what you usually do...say it's not your job and skulk away.

How do the two statements differ? They both have the same practical result.
