With Popeyes, Churches, etc. for competition. I think KFC are getting their ass kicked. One of the local KFC restaurants just went under.
Only KFC has the Colonel's secret blend of eleven herbs and spices. Popeye's definitely has better biscuits, and probably juicier chicken, but that Original Recipe, dripping with grease is just so good.
Where is the closets Churches? I have not had churches fried chicken since 1991 and that was in a part of Atlanta that I didn't even feel comfortable at the drive through.
Sonics is fine, but we're talking strictly chicken here. I feel your pain. Anywhere except north Atlanta (Marietta for example) no matter where you go you're pretty much a Lone Ranger. That's just the demographics of the city.
It WAS good back when it was ran properly. The last few years the food has been horrible and the restaurants nasty. If I want good fresh fried chicken I go to Bojangles or Publix.
Ah, the old southern ladies would be spinning in their graves if they could hear that; NO ONE CAN COOK ANYMORE! Especially SOUTHERN fried chicken. Oy vey!
No chain restaurant can compete with a good mom and pop place. My favorite here in town is owned and operated by genuine black people, like any truly good chicken place should be. If you go there, try the lemon pepper chicken.
There's a hippy grocery store that leases their commercial kitchen out to entrepreneurs. One of them is a large black woman named 'Big Momma' of course. She was putting on a demo one day, I took a piece of her fried chicken to the wife, who promptly looked at me like she'd been slapped in the face when she tried it.
The only downside to that place is the atmosphere. There's a television that's always on some talk show or "teevee judge" show. They need to play some good blues, soul, or even gospel music there. A couple of weeks ago, one of the employees changed the channel to some country videos and even that was an improvement (and I hate mainstream country music).
My grandmother from Columbus, GA, made some damn fine fried chicken, but the best I ever had was at a church potluck in Ancalagon's home town. No idea if he was there, this was pre-trekBBS days, but the people in that town know their chicken without a doubt.
If it was 1st United Methodist and it was Weds Night Supper, the odds are high that not only was I there but helped set up.
It just occurred to me that I put this fine statement in the wrong thread. Basketball, not fast food chain.
That's why they're all turning into half-and-halfs with Taco Bell. KFC dies, they can just all be turned into Taco Bells with minor signage changes, and no disruption in kitchen service whatever.
There's a chicken place at our local flea market, and the chicken there was always good. Better than chain restaurant chicken at any rate.
Publix makes fried chicken? I have one near me, I thought it was just a standard grocery store (although a bit more upscale than Food Lion for example). Please explain the chicken scenario.
Our local Kroger has pretty good fried chicken. There's a little Ameristop gas station up the street that has a hot foods section, and their chicken was pretty good back when I still ate chicken.
