Whether or not you agreed with him, his opinion counted. As do all of ours. So let's remember Sokar with the respect that is deserved. Rest in peace my friend.

Yes, a good idea. I've made the thread. I've got Mallory, Techman, and Sokar. Who am I missing?

Fair enough without evidence, yet his departure is suspect.

I disagree. We can't behave like this in real life. And maybe Sokar was truthful and lived his life like he posted here. We'll never know. People behave differently when it's words on screen. And the worst that can happen is that Lanzman can ban you from a website...temporarily. That's just how it is.

So, I'll say this. I will miss his presence. I never cared about it and in fact enjoyed a great bit of it. And it does suck that he died. Cancer is horrible, so I've heard. And this is all quite a shock.

And that's a good thing. Do we really need the ugliness that often passes for wit? I've often wondered if people are just amusing themselves, or if this is what they would really be if they were allowed to do so.

There is an advantage to knowing someone on FB. You get a better view of their totality, especially in how they affect others. And based on what's on his, there was FAR more than just the ass we saw here.

I'm curious whether or not you are comfortable with the notion that, if your reasoning as adopted, there would be not a few here who would have the same reaction to your death?

(I'm not among them, i simply can't wrap my head around that mindset - but I'm just saying that in the context of your position, there would be some)

    WTF!?

    Godspeed...

Well, Sokar was a total asshole on this board, no doubt about that.

He was really proud to be an asshole and even boasted that his character here was the same as in real life.

    But I doubt it.

R.I.P. dude... In the end, many things don't really matter. Condolences to his friends and family.

Ya know, Internet trolling and drama is par for the course. It’s the nature of the beast, and I don’t think many people act in real life as they would on a messageboard. The fact that some posters here are so insecure and childish that they can’t put aside Red Room trivia and express sympathy over the real-life death of someone they talked to for years, is pretty telling.

I don’t know anything about Sokar personally, but I found him quite entertaining and fun to post with on Wordforge. And someone dying in their forties and leaving behind a family is pretty sad no matter who they were.

    RIP

Sokar didn't "talk" to people, he spewed racial slurs and substituted debate with calling people pedophiles.

Hence, you have the less than sympathetic reaction of some folks to his passing.

He could have been a much better contributor than he chose to be. Unfortunate, but I'm sure that wherever he is right now, Wordforge isn't something he's worried about.

Whether some people like it or not, some of us will have personas. For some people it's part of the escape. It allows you to be someone slighty different for a while, be that a charicature, an entirely new personality or maybe even just an angrier version of your normal self. Yes, Sokar said some pretty disgusting stuff, and there is certainly the argument that he added little of substance. But, irrepsective of what we may say in here, you have to give people the benefit of the doubt and not second guess what they are out of this place. Sokar, as it turns out, was going through some nasty shit, so is it any wonder that part of his WF personality was projecting frustration and anger? Conversely we have no idea how good a father he was, whether ir did charity work and so on. At the end of the day very few here know what is happening in the lives of the rest of us. I, myself, learned the hard way that it's best not to divulge every detail, and I am sure others feel that why. So why judge Sokar, or any one of the rest of the board off of the shit that is posted here?

To form conclusive opinions about people based off of what is written on WF is shallow, superficial and, frankly, not very intelligent.

Jesus Christ, there's a time and a place to point out Sokar's flaws. This thread wasn't it.
WaB you've scaled UA levels of obdurate dickishness.
wAnc, you're a set of dreadlocks and a teatowel round your neck away from being a Krugman quoting flatworm like Liet.

I am not saddened by this in the least. He was an ass to me and everyone for years and I can't possibly miss that. Whoever he was IRL doesn't matter to me because I never saw it.

I find it funny that the same people who keep saying that you have to separate the online persona from the real person can't see that that is exactly what many of us are doing.

As I said in my first post, I'm not happy the person is dead but I am happy his persona will not be posting.

Yeah, I don't have any issue with that sentiment. It's quite understandable, though not something for me personally. He was certainly an ass much of the time at Wordforge. But if that's all you saw, then you missed some things. Once in a while he opened up a bit more. And that's something worth mourning, that we didn't get to know him better, because the glimpses I saw now and then made me think he was probably an interesting guy with some good stories to tell.

I also find it funny that Tamar specifically chose to post this in the Red Room but also said to keep it civil. It's like she's never seen a Red Room thread before, especially one that Sokar had been posting in.

It's almost as if she was trying to lure people into trolling his death.
