Objectively, it is true that they will get far more outrage from his fans than they ever got from GLAAD.

On the other hand, the upcoming season is already in the can and Phil had said months ago he wouldn't always be on the show, which is why they were introducing the preacher-son next season to set that exit up.

So very likely by the time they get to the NEXT season (not the one that starts in January) the passion over the controversy will have died away and Phil will have said, in effect, "Fuck it, I ain't got nothing to prove" and gone hunting.

Pro-tip Flashy? One other point: I'm for the guy. Not because I'm anti-gay or pro-Christian but because I'm pro- freedom of expression. Punishing people for freely expressing their personal beliefs -- be it financially, legally, or otherwise -- inflicts damage on the freedom of expression. It sets an evil precedent that won't be easily rolled back, and it absolutely undoes all the progress made by these groups who, until a few short years ago and in some places even still did not embrace their own freedom to express themselves.

When you make some comfortable expressing themselves freely at the expense of taking that same comfort away from others, that isn't progress.

The important thing is that he's made himself a hero to the desperate-for-martyrdom contingent of the Conservative Christian Whining Brigade, and that's good for another six months of fame at least.

They would like you to believe that those who object to homosexual behavior on religious grounds are "bigots" in the same sense as racists. But it simply isn't true. When people revile your group as being immoral, or just amoral, it doesn't help your cause to do immoral or amoral things to them in retaliation. It justifies and legitimizes their criticism.
