Speaking of murders we usually have a really low violent crime rate around here, we've been repeatedly named the safest large city in the country in the past, there were two shootings in two days at one of the large local malls. in the checkout today I perused a tiny bit of the Enquirer (for lack of a better option)

no proof, of course, and source considered, but it's an interesting claim, to wit: that Phil hates the producers of the show, feels they insulted them by trying to promote them as ignorant hillbillies, and wanted out of the contract....thus...he purposely instigated the recent events by choosing to give an inflammatory remark that would paint A&E into a corner and "force" them to suspend him.

It seems to me that were this true, it would be a full on win for Robertson.
A. he gets to burn the ass of people he dislikes (the producers)
B. he gets out of a contract he doesn't like and carries with him leverage to get a better deal elsewhere if he wants
C He gets the "street cred" with his target audience of having supposedly sacrificed for his beliefs
D. he lines up a bunch of willing supporters all too happy to make up the lost income with speaking engagements, books, etc
E he rallies the like minded populace to "stand up" on an issue he thinks is important.

And the inevitable comes to pass - A & E caves, and does what they should have done to start with by issuing a simple statement that Robertson's opinion is his own and doesn't represent their corporate position. Instead, they let themselves be bullied by GLADD and their homo sympathizers into becoming thought police and punishing someone for having the "wrong" non-PC opinions.

It's kinda interesting - a tale of two lobbyist groups.

Remember a few months back, in the wake of Sandy Hook, during the height of the gun grabber hysteria? The Left's strategy was to try and convince people that the NRA was a paper tiger, that their reputation for being able to make or break politicians was an exaggerated myth. They pointed to a handful of politicians that the NRA had thrown a few dollars at who failed to get elected and used that as evidence that the NRA was toothless.

Then came the utter collapse of Obama's gun control agenda, thanks to the NRA. Not only was Obama defeated, but his agenda was so thoroughly destroyed that gun control as a political issue is now dead and buried. The Left's strategy was a complete and total failure, because the truth all along was that next to Big Oil and Big Pharma, the NRA *is* the most powerful lobbyist group in America, with roots that run several generations deep in "flyover" America.

Contrast that with today's humiliating defeat for GLAAD. It should now be obvious to everyone that GLAAD's influence begins and ends within the borders of Hollyweird. Nobody in middle America gives a flying fuck what this group of militant queers thinks or says. In fact, anything that gets GLAAD's panties in a bunch is considered a good thing throughout the rest of the country. A & E's mistake was in not telling these homos to fuck off. Let em' picket and protest and threaten to boycott - who cares? Was nobody paying attention to the Chick Fil'A controversy? GLAAD pitched a fit on that one as well, and what happened? Chick Fil'A enjoyed record sales because the silent majority rose up and counter-protested by handing over millions in sales.

I don't think they are impotent - there's a long string of getting there way that doesn't disappear because they lost on this one. but they did seriously overplay their hand and if they are wise it should suggest a little more tactical sense in terms of picking their battles and expressing an appropriate (not hyperbolic) level of unhappiness.

For me the enduring legacy of this event was to illustrate the universal nature of hypocrisy.
