Bullets should be for the worst of the worst. Lot cheaper. If you legalized all the victimless crimes, shot up all the maniacs and perverts, and put the corporate criminals to work in coal mines, we'd have utopia within your lifetime. Bank on it. But, our "criminal justice system", has become the instrumentality of corporatized bigotry, so don't hold your breath waiting.
To the best of my knowledge, that is the case in most states when the suspected person is drunk. Refuse to blow into the breathalyzer and your license is automatically suspended.
They make an interesting point about otherwise law abiding citizens becoming criminals. Repeal of prohibition was an amnesty of sorts, yet I so far haven't seen anybody talking about marijuana legalization rewarding criminals.
I was just out grocery shopping - I'm at work all day and lately busy volunteering in the evenings and weekends, so I'm glad there are 24/7 grocery stores so I can get food in these busy times. I had everything I needed for chicken marsala, except for the marsala wine. So I stopped by the grocery store to pick some up - the cooking kind this time, not the expensive 'real' marsala wine, just to see what it's like and since I don't plan on going through it that fast. But it happened to be after 9:00 pm, so by law Wisconsin stores cannot sell alcohol - apparently not even cooking wine! Because apparently if you sell even salty cooking wine to a straight-laced, hard-working citizen at 9:02pm he will become a menace to society (although he could still get sloshed at a bar, which we have more of in Wisconsin than grocery stores). Prohibition is still with us. And is still stupid.
The Navy Exchange (and likely the other branches too) just put that in place a few months ago to not sell booze between 10 at night and six in the morning. I'm sure glad no one just buy a million 12 packs before then or that 24 hour walmarts within driving distance don't exist!
As someone who has smoked pot in my younger days, but not in a long time, has cancer and no appetite, and has already lost about 25 pounds and I haven't even started chemo or radiation yet, I'd give my eye teeth for some brownies, cookies, cannibis oil, or lollipops from Colorado. My oncologist said we might discuss Marinol to stimulate my appetite. It just illustrated the power of Big Pharma.
So they "decriminalize" the possession of small amounts of pot (and "decriminalize" is misleading, you will still be cited/ticketed and have to pay a fine if you're caught), yet there's no legal avenue by which to purchase pot in the state, and growers/dealers are still public enemy #1. Doesn't make much sense.
Legalize it. Period. Don't want kids to get pot? Legalize it and check ID's. Drug dealers don't check ID's. They don't have to.
Actually, I do. Better weed than alcohol or tobacco. Definitely better for 'em than extacy, meth, or oxycontin, which is what the little pricks are hooked on now.
It's your body, you own it. What you do in the privacy of your own home is nobody's business but your own. If you are an employer, do you have the right to a drug free workplace? Absolutely! What you don't have a right to do is regulate what your employees do off the clock. As citizens, do we have the right to safe, drug free highways? Again, absolutely! What society doesn't have the right to do is regulate what citizens do in the privacy of their own homes. I don't see how anyone in their right mind can oppose the abuses of liberty that we got from the Patriot Act and then support the WoD. Remember the saying that those who are willing to trade liberty for security deserve neither? How is the WoD any different?
