http://m.koco.com/news/ou-investiga...wing-fraternity-singing-racist-chant/31686542 OK, how has this not been posted. I did a cursory look of the Red room and nothing. OU Frat boys from SAE were recorded on a bus to a black tie event, by tag along girl, chanting racial slurs. said Frat has been disowned by OU and National SAE Fraternity. Frat boys are expected to be moved out of House by midnight tonight. My question, why didn't OU respond with such quickness and death penalty punishments, to the OU football player who abused his girl? Is racism worse than physical abuse? No.
OU places more value in maintaining a competitive football program evidently. I hadn't seen this story, though there is a similar one about a Kapa Sigma chapter. Fraternities behaving badly seems to have reached the level of bad publicity that exceeds whatever value they might otherwise bring to a campus. We evidently aren't at that point yet with division 1 football.
Gul nailed it. There's your answer. There are, I think, big problems in College Ball. I think many institutions have lost control of the programs and the NCAA is corrupt and mostly ineffectual at best. You can imagine how much it pains me to say it, but I think Nick Saban is the only coach of a top tier program willing to actually punish this sort of behavior. Auburn has lost three current or former football players in the last two years at the same apartment complex that they shouldn't have been at to begin with. The problems are slowly simmering now. When it comes to a boil, it's going to get ugly.
Is it just me or does the reaction to this seem a bit over the top? Yes, the behavior needs correction. But the way everyone went apeshit (is that racist?) over this seems a little excessive. Like everyone is immediately trying to get their PC cred. Hell I expect to see an article about how everyone on the bus will be summarily executed.
IIRC he said something nasty to her gay friend, she got in his face then slapped him. Then he punched her in the face. I'm one of the guys that thinks that slapping isn't OK and anybody dumb enough to start physical violence has no cause to complain if they get punched.
Sports rule, unfortunately. http://chronicle.com/blogs/conversa...ng-reveals-whats-wrong-with-higher-education/
Football brings in a much higher dollar return than some alumni endowments. And often, the alum make no such "repayment" to the school. It is sad but very true. Frats AND sororities should ALL be off campus and all activities overseen by the local authorities. That may quiet them down a bit.
Nope. I went to a college where all the frats were located off-campus, and the university's attitude was they weren't responsible for anything done off-campus, so even though the police were making daily visits to some frats, they weren't held accountable by the university.
