http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/little...efocuses-syrian-tragedy-nahlah-ayed-1.3213893 Awesome. Do me a favour though, and repost the pictures of that drowned Syrian toddler. (I'm on my phone.) The one that was denied refugee status by Canada. Explain to me how that was the right call. Go on. Be a hero.
I don't see what the big deal is. Even if Canada had given them refugee status, the family would eventually have drowned off Newfoundland instead.
Yes, because our entire foreign policy and immigration program should be based on an emotional reaction to a horrible photo of a dead child. You fucking idiot.
If anyone's actually following the story, it's been spun so many different ways by the family, the government (including the politicians running for re-election) and particularly the media, that I suspect the truth has been completely lost in the vortex of spin. An absolute tragedy and a gut-wrenching photograph. If it helps put a spotlight on the crisis, then at least something good has come of it. But too many people here in Canuckistan (like that cocksmoke 14thDoctor) are using it to score political points and point fingers.
It's absolutely disgraceful. The European tabloids have been stirring up anti-migrant feeling for some time, so their coverage of the kids death this morning was the height of hypocrisy.
Given its proximity to the Middle East, the flood of refugees and the horrible state of most EU nations' economies, I think the next decade or so is going to be unfortunately very interesting for the EU.
My position on refugees is the same today as it was last week, last month and last year. On an unrelated note, kill yourself.
The EU could comfortably accommodate these refugees if it had the poltical will to do so. There are something like 2-3 million in Lebanon, while many in the UK bitch endlessly about a few thousand.
You forgot to repost the picture of the dead toddler. Come on, you know you want to. It's better that he died, right?
How much does organized crime get paid per person for a trip on one of these death boats? Anyone got a rough estimate?
Dumbest comment I'd ever read from you. Do you not understand the whole concept of why people flee and claim asylum in other countries in circumstances such as this? It isn't because of culture, it is because they have a significant risk to their lives and well being. There seems to be an assumption, particularly here in Europe, that most of these people are trying to get here to lead a better economic life. Whilst that is certainly true of many who come to Europe and claim asylum (such as those who come from African countries where there is little more than poverty issues) the fact is that the reason there is currently a crisis is because of the situation in Syria and Iraq. They are fleeing persecution. They want basic safety. They want their families, their husbands, wives, parents, children, to be safe. That is basic human nature, and every person in this thread would do exactly the fucking same if they were faced with the choice of staying in a war zone with murderers like ISIS or risking their lives to get to a place of safety and democracy.
Smartphones undoubtedly have a lot to do with the scale of migration. Every Syrian squatting in a refugee camp in the middle of the desert was getting texts and photos from Syrians who were sipping coffee in Amsterdam, explaining how they get out.
That kid and his family never formally applied for refugee status in Canada. Any other lies you'd care to share while you're making an ass of yourself?
The boys death is tragic, but it doesn't change the fact that the "rich" nations can't save and support everyone. Try using logic and not emotion for once. 14th is the classic example of the liberal who bases everything on emotion and not thinking things through. Just as long as they make him feel good for a few minutes. EDIT: Ad that moron Rick to that too.
Chup, they can indeed get to safe locations in neighboring countries so, no, they aren't coming to the EU for safety. They are economic migrants plain and simple so your claims do not hold water. The EU doesn't have to be the only place for them to go. Egypt hasn't taken in very many, the Saudis reject them all. There are 16 members of the Arab League so maybe their fucking Arab brothers should do a bit more? The west can help by donating money and supplies but we sure as fuck don't need to let in every terrorist supporting paracite who wants to be an economic migrant. If you haven't noticed shit isn't going all that great for us so why the hell shouldn't we look after our own poor and disadvantaged before we let the entire 3rd world flush their toilets on us?
Is it impolite to point out that these people wouldn't be refugees if they hadn't allowed their own countries to turn into shitholes?
We certainly could afford it. We have different priorities, but there is enough wealth to manage the problem.
