And fuck the fucker who started the "the movie starts with Luke's hand landing on Jakku", rumor, and the "Luke is the bad guy", rumor.

Apparently some of Spoiler Man's spoilers were true in the original Lucas Script that Disney threw in the trash can. Rey was originally named Kira, and I think C3PO had a red arm because Chewie ripped off the other one to beat someone with it.

I suppose it's possible that the "hand landing on Jakku" bit was from an earlier version of the script. Luke's light saber *is* an important artifact in the movie.

Actually Rey *was* originally called Kira in the early drafts.

It's pretty plausible that they were leaking deliberate misinformation.

In fairness, that's still a possibility.

    (Although I doubt it.)

Okay, not reading all 10 pages right now, but have to chime in, since I saw it, and I'm going to see it again. Absolutely loved it :) Han Solo had a lot more screen time than I thought he would get. I didn't have time to read any spoilers, but the outcome was no surprise of course. I basically imagined the original cast only beeing in it to 'sell' the new actors to the public. But, as Stallion said, this was really Han Solo's Star Wars movie. Which is great, as he's my all time favorite. Love the new girl as well, she's going to kick ass. Wouldn't mind her getting a bit more of a Starbuck attitude ;)
The new bad guy, though? He's a wuss, and he must have been separated from his daddy at an early age. A little spineless wimp, performed by an actor I cannot see giving him more character any time soon. So that either makes him a bad choice, or someone's who is going to be offed at the end of the next movie. Loved the references, probably missed many more subtle ones, so I guess I'll have to see the original series again before I go. Great idea.
As for Luke? Only one thought popped up when I saw him: 'Damn, he's chubby!'

You've basically summarized the other 10 pages. :storm:

This piece of concept art doesn't work for me.

Given that TIE fighter cockpits themselves are pretty large, it looks like those would utterly dwarf X-wings. Pilots would also have to use "Force jump" to get into them, or maybe use a grappling hook and climbing gear.

I wouldn't say that. The Star Wars wiki page indicates that a Tie Fighter is 30 feet tall/long/ By looking at the figures among the Tie Fighters, he's roughly 1/5 the height of the Tie Fighter. Putting him at 6 feet tall makes the Tie Fighter 30 feet tall.

Well that would be about right then. I don't think those are really designed to be landing on a runway, though.

In any event, I'm surprised by the concept art story because I figured that the story arc for Luke and the rest would've been written, rewritten, analyzed, and fleshed out in detail decades ago. Yet it sounds like this was the first go at it and every possibility was on the table.

Does anyone else find the much more overt visual connection to the Third Reich a bit ... I don't know, lame? Tiresome? I kind of have to roll my eyes at it. There's always been a connection between the Nazis and the Empire because of how their officers dressed and the use of the name "storm trooper," but it wasn't quite as in your face as the Nuremberg rally stuff, you know?

It's interesting you should say that. I have just read someone else saying that the Empire used to be "cryptofascist" and only became overtly fascist as the First order. I never considered anything about the Empire's fascism to be cryptic at all; it seemed quite clearly Third Reichean to me from the start.

Yeah, the only thing that seemed more avert was the Storm Troopers raised hand salute after Hux made his speech. Everything else we have seen in previous movies.

Went to see it again today - took my dad so that was fun.

Films still good, you can defo pick out Daniel Craigs voice in his storm trooper scene. Pretty sure i could hear Ewan McGregor shout "Rey" when she has her flashback, just at the point of the young Rey watching the ship fly off.

It was Alec Gueness who said, "Rey", Euwan McGreggor said, "these are your first steps."

But they lied, because obviously nobody's first steps in the Force are to rip into the mind of a Sith or rip a lightsaber right past him. It's supposed to be months of trying to make a marble move. She'd obviously had a whole lot of prior training and experience, perhaps suppressed with some kind of mind block, but definitely there. That or she's the biggest Mary Sue since Ensign Crusher.

Maybe she just felt something. It's pretty obvious the force guided her. Luke didn't know much about the force either, yet he was already a good pilot and was able to make the kill shot on the Death Star without any training other than the ball thing on the Falcon.

And if they did, it'd be two women, with the parts cast in such a way as to make the romance as titillating as possible to straight men.

Except Alev Guiness died 15 years ago so unless Lucas filmed Ep7 or they found archive of him shouting Rey???

I do agree that it sounded like him, but i presumed it was McGregor doing his Guiness accent

What I read is that they did some edits of him saying something else, turning it in to Rey. I can't recall what the original was supposed to be, though.

But why bother going thru all that trouble for a line that is so quick most people won't catch? It's not like they can bring Alec Guiness back to have conversations with people. Plus you still have Ewan McGregor around if you want to resurrect obi-wan.

I finally saw Episode VII last Monday the 4th, an 11:am show!

I liked it, found it enjoyable.

My Siskel & Ebert is 2 Thumbs Up!

I plan to go see it again, maybe the next time in 3D.

Being this IS the SPOILERS Thread, I don't like that they killed off Han Solo!

It was like watching Captain Kirk die all over again.

Has anyone ever seen JJ Abrams and Brannon Braga in the same room?
