I'm against the federal government expanding into areas where it has no Constitutional authority to be. Like mandating the purchase of a commercial product under penalty of law.
I don't see any way that any practically useful tax could ever be legal if we follow that restriction. When collected the traditional way, the tax is taken under penalty of law to buy whatever government will buy with it; the only effective difference is that the government then makes an even more specific decision that allows for much less open markets and free enterprise.
@Rusty Shackleford - this thread would be a good example of why people think you are 17 years old. Or 36 years old with an IQ of 36.
The Constitution specifically authorizes Congress the power to "lay and collect taxes." The ACA was sold to us as "not a tax" until it was passed and it was discovered that enforcement would be thru penalties imposed and collected by the IRS - IOW, a tax. But at its heart it's still the fedgov requiring you to purchase a commercial product (health insurance) whether you want it or not.
No, it doesn't. The federal governments spends federal money to buy things for the federal government. They buy a cruise missile. They don't make me buy one. For many people health insurance doesn't make a lick of sense. Suicide bombers, for example.
They do make us buy cruise missiles. They'll throw me in jail if I don't buy a cruise missile. What the fuck are you on, gturner?
Fuck also the high taxes I pay because I was trying to make a living. The way I define Obamacare is kind of the robin hood analogy. Steal from the rich, give to the poor.
Or does any part of your income derive from investments? Is it protected by laws enforced by courts or police?
No, it very clearly is not. Show me the line in the Constitution where it says "Congress shall have power to compel the purchase of commercial products by individual citizens." Or even "Congress shall have power to decide how individual citizens will spend their money." And boys, taxes pay for government, not for individual items the government may purchase in the course of executing its functions. Congress may decide to buy cruise missiles or it may decide to buy cupcakes. In theory we elect our representatives based on if we think they'll spend the public money on the "right" stuff.
He's just going to point to either the welfare clause or commerce clause. We've been over this a million times.
Well, you should probably look into taking advantage of the many Federal and State funded options to assist you. You should check your local Housing and Urban Development office.
Your taxes pay for cruise missiles, but you don't have to pay a fine for not buying one for yourself.
Why would you say that? I just pointed you towards where you can get assistance paying your rent...just like Obamacare gives some people assistance paying for their health insurance.
I didn't say that. I just you don't care about poor people. A very naive view that most kids grow out of.
