Agreed. My biggest frustration with all this is the assumption that mental illness is somehow automatically indicative of madness. No, plenty of mental ill people still have their faculties and can still be politically influenced.

We don't like to call it terrorism or politically motivated when the person committing the act is more similar to ourselves. Why? Because we don't like to admit that people like us are just as capable as any other human being. Far easier to point the finger at people with funny skin colours, languages, religions or cultures and declare them our enemies and say they incompatible with us.

It's exactly the same point I was trying to make to Dayton the other day over his promotion of homophobia after Orlando. By spreading hate you communicate that hate to more people, and in doing that you risking creating the hate in people who may well choose to act on it. What if Dinner posts on a site where there are easily led people? Who is to say he's not helping to convince a far right nutter to carry out a similar act? Is it really any different from a young Muslim going on social media and becoming radicalised? Not every Islamic extremist online is someone who has commited crimes, but they are spreading the hate that might cause that person to carry out an attack or join the likes of ISIS. It's exactly the same principle.
