So I am inadvertently at the March for Women in San Diego.

The Washington Post had some decent things to say about the protest:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...4da832ae861_story.html?utm_term=.e62ef55dec7b

Marchers — mostly women and mostly white — said they came to take the most public possible stand against Trump, a candidate and now president whom they said routinely insults women and the issues they care about. But the gathering also provided therapy for many, the balm of immersing themselves in a like-minded sea of citizens who had shared their anxiety and disappointment after Democrat Hillary Clinton’s historic bid for the presidency ended in defeat.
    ------

Yep, mostly older white women crying about Hillary losing and Trump winning. Therapy would do them some good. Also the bit about the progressive anst and stupidity just in trying to name the march was hilarious. Originally, it was to be called the million women's march until white liberal defenders rushed forward to say that would be cultural appropriation from black people!

Oh, progressives are so hopeless sometimes.

This looks like the gist of what I'm seeing from FB friends who attended protests yesterday.

I'm not terribly pleased about Trump or his promises either, but I'm not getting worked up about it. Of course people will bleat "if you're not angry you're not paying attention" but on the other hand an education is the ability to hear opposing ideas without losing your temper or your confidence.

Many liberals are enraged right now because government is practically their raison d’être, the primary thing they turn to to fix their problems and mold society to their ideals and make their dreams come true - so it's understandable now that the other side is in charge that they think their world is coming to an end. But my own happiness, self-worth, and sense of purpose don't come from the government.

That’s a lovely rationalization, but it’s very far afield. I was with you until the final paragraph, and then you had slip over into OldfellaLand.

You’re not gloating like oldfella, but you’re cavalier and, right now, you can afford to be. Trump hasn’t taken anything from you or threatened your way of life. He perceives neither your religion (none, IIRC) nor your ethnicity nor your sexuality to be threats to his vision of what this country “should” be (i.e., modeled on what he values, period). You were born in this country to parents who were born in this country, and you have no children whom he would perceive to be a threat to “real American” children.

When he takes something from you, you might lose some of your characteristic :dendroica:.

You sure do make a lot of assumptions about me. As usual, you're largely incorrect.

And like other sour liberals, you're practically hoping for something bad to happen to me. So much for being so high-minded.

What actual threats has he made?

E-mail from Jeff (the Sage of the Upper West Side):

We were at the amazing NYC march yesterday (...), starting at 10:30 am. Five hours later we had “marched” about half a mile! They were expecting 100,000 and 400-600,000 showed up. By the time we left at 3:30, Grand Central Terminal was jammed with thousands leaving and thousands more coming in, staring goggle-eyed at the wall-to-wall crowds.

    The signs I particularly liked:
Look who we’re PUTIN in the White House
    Resist kleptocracy
    From class to crass
    Make impeachment great again
Trump made this old lady march
Too many issues — not enough sign
    Even introverts are marching!
    This pussy grabs back!

…and a truly New York one:

And just for comparison, here was the rally in Antarctica:

yes.....INDIA jesus christ can't you read? You're a writer, are you not? And who told me to research a map? Unless there's something wrong with my computer monitor, it says women in India.
Apparently women are treated poorly in India, if not officially then by the masses in general. Anyway, from the article - read it again, correct me if I'm wrong.

"The Republican-backing demonstrations in Nigeria were in sharp contrast to rallies taking place across the world – in India thousands of women's rights campaigners marched in solidarity against Donald Trump's perceived sexism."

Give me something he's actually taken from you or others. Give threats that are real threats.

My opinion is, and always has been, that incompetent people in positions of power in my country's government represents a standing threat to my quality of life, based on my opinion that incompetent people are more likely to do incompetent things as well as my opinion that someone in power over me has the power to do things that affect me.

But maybe you don't see it that way.

    Still irrelevant.

It's like me saying John Kerry and Hillary Clinton were unqualified to be Secretary of State and while in office incompetent. So that makes them a threat.

    It's an opinion.

He’s been in office less than a week, and he’s got all those Very Important Tweets to get through first.

Tell us again how you didn't vote for him, but you keep defending him to the death. :diacanu:

And again give examples. Shouldn't be that hard.

"Threats" were what @NAHTMMM called them upthread, @Zombie was just repeating that.

Why can't you answer the question?

I'm completely aware of his campaign promises.

Again can anyone on the left on this board give one example of what he has taken from you and what threats he has made against you?

Garamet won't give an answer. Is there anyone willing to speak on what she said up thread?

Speaking of threats, I'm kind of wondering what "send in the Feds" means. Federal law enforcement agencies already provide support to municipal police. Is the FBI going to take over local police functions? Federal troops patrolling the streets?
