The whole point to having a boomer is so that other people don't know where the fuck it is. If you attach them to CBGs then everyone knows where the fuck it is.
I always thought it would be interesting if a Star Trek series adopted the U.S. Navies "Blue crew" and "Gold crew" rotation for SSBNs for the crews of a starship on a new series. Have one crew man the series ship for a season (or half a season) then switch with an entirely different crew for the same length of time. Could've been a great way to offer contrasting characters and crew dynamics.
No it wouldn't. And it would be stupid. The Alpha quadrant is a little bigger than the Pacific and Atlantic ocean. You can't do much exploring if you're constantly turning around and heading back to port to switch crews.
Who says you need to go back to port? Meet up with another starship (they did plenty of that) and transport the new crew aboard and the old crew off. Should take about 5 minutes of screen time. In the real world, the U.S. Navy already flies out some replacement personnel for ships stationed overseas so the ship can remain on station.
Some people. You don't see the Navy replacing whole crews. And again your idea makes no sense. Think of the logistics. Even at warp speeds it takes a long time to travel the vast distance of the Federation and unexplored territory. The further the main ship travels the further these imaginary relief ships would have to travel to get to them. You could end up in a situation where you have not two crews but multiple crews because there is no time for the old crew to make it to base, chill, and than turn around and go back to the ship. A stupid idea.
Can't believe we've had multiple mentions of Korea and Boomers and baba hasn't made a Grace Park comment yet. I could stand to hear more about her missile tube and ability to deep dive.
Wait a minute. What did I miss? This isn't just speculation on a few 'Forger's part? You're saying boomers actually are escorting carrier groups?
They don't have a broad range of what they can do. The range of what they do is hide, avoid other units like the plague, and launch their missiles. Because that's what we have attack subs for. It doesn't. But an SSBN happening to be within 1000 miles of a carrier group <> said SSBN is attached to or "shadowing" the carrier group.
So, Trump says Bill Clinton and Obama both got outplayed by the "gentleman" in charge of NK. Until 2011, NK was led by Kim Jong-il, not his son Kim Jong-un. Even Dayton will do minimal research into a topic before flapping his jaw on it, for fuck's sake. Admittedly, never enough to avoid embarassing himself.
. None of those. I'm more partial if you asked me for an actress type Lena Headley, Michelle Rodriguez, Mila Jovovitch, Erin Gray, Claudia Christian, Yanci Butler.......
Not necessarily. IIRC the U.S.S. Michigan was the 2nd Ohio class ballistic missile submarine. I think the first four Ohio class SSBNs were converted to carry 154 conventionally armed Tomahawk cruise missiles. So technically it would now be a "SSGN" not an "SSBN" and would NOT be carrying nuclear weapons. Perhaps Anna can shed more light on this.
USS Michigan is not a boomer. She started her career as one but was converted from a SSBN to a SSGN. She now only carries Tomahawks and other assorted missiles. Two of the SLBM missile tubes were converted into lockout chambers for Seals/divers. She can no longer carry a SLBM. This is why you're seeing her in port in South Korea. You're not going to see a boomer show up in a South Korean port. That would be an unbelievable risk as North Korea would see it as a threat and it would be a very tempting target. Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and Georgia are not boomers anymore. Instead of being retired they were just converted into a different use. So feel free to spit up your words.
All one hundred Senators are being briefed by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It's also been reported that Trump has talked to Japan and China this weekend.
The Ohio class submarines carry 24 Trident missiles each. Each missile had multiple warheads on it. America's fourteen remaining SSBN carry roughly 50% of America's nuclear weapons firepower. A single submarine could lay waste to an entire country. The name boomer is a nickname for ballistic missile submarines. USS Michigan no longer carries those missiles. Twenty-two of her missile tubes were converted to carry Tomahawks. Two missile tubes were converted to lockout chambers for divers to use. There are no current nuclear armed Tomahawk's in service. So it makes a huge difference. The Navy is not going to park a submarine carrying 24 missiles carrying around 8 nuclear warheads on each missile in a South Korean port in the middle of this crisis. Too dangerous for everyone. Could freak out fatboy in North Korea and cause him to attack preemptively. Such a submarine would be a juicy tempting target. Not to mention freaking out the Chinese. They aren't going to like an American nuclear armed submarine so close to them either.
I keep hearing about the artillery along the DMZ that can level Seoul. How fast could we take it out before they could fire and cause mass casualties?
Not fast enough. There is simply to much of it. Plus let's think this out...... Let's say war breaks out. Fatboy knows at that point his days are numbered. He's more likely to just say, "fuck it" and tell the military to forget the artillery and just lob a couple of nukes on the city. Not to mention using the rest of his nukes at various other targets.
