More atrocities where NRA supporters are impacted... I don't wish it on anybody to lose a friend or family member in a mass shooting, but as long as NRA supporters aren't personally affected they wont act... Again, the way the NRA has reacted after this shooting proves they don't give a shit about other peoples lives as long as they themselves aren't affected by it... Imagine them saying "That's the price of freedom" after Barron Trump gets killed by an idiot in a school shooting... The NRA doesn't give a flying fuck about peoples lives, just the money they make for helping their masters make more money...
I wouldn't list resistance movements against the NAZIs to justify civilian gun ownership in the United States. No matter how bad you think our government is, no one is in the remotest danger of being rounded up and sent to a death camp(concentration camp). Most resistance movements historically amount to little more than suicidal efforts that count on the side being resisted running out of time and resources before the resisters run out of willing bodies.
It doesn't work that way. NRA supporters will use anything affecting them as a battle cry for more guns and less restrictions. Until NRA supported politicians are voted out of office nothing will change.
This kid is an ignorant hack. Shame on the media . David Hogg: Gov. Rick Scott Should Be ‘Held Accountable’ For Sheriff’s Deputies That Didn’t Confront Shooter https://www.mediaite.com/tv/david-h...heriffs-deputies-that-didnt-confront-shooter/ Because the sheriff is a hardcore democrat we have to blame a republican. And he's just ya know... Wrong
Yes... And he's wrong about Florida law and the chain of responsibility. Other than that, sure he was there.
I'm on board with 1 through 3, but I'd throw in a universal background check. I would even be okay with restricting magazine capacities to 20 rounds.
Actually, 34 according to Mother Jones. I figured the age for school shooters might trend lower but having looked at it it's still 22, so I'll agree with you on this. My personal option would be mental health provisions, but then you all seem fucking crazy so it might be a bit draconian.
Ah, Shoes, defying gun fan stereotypes since, well, it's been a while lets just say. Mag/clip limits is another one I can't see a sensible argument against. Gun is for self-defence? OK let's assume 3 bullets per attacker to ensure a hit. If they have you 7-to-1 you're pretty fucked anyway. Hell, 15 rounds should be enough for any survivable home/self-defence scenario. Gun is for hunting? If you can't bag your moose (and why would you hunt anything less, you wimp?) with 15-20 shots, you deserve the moose-rape that is coming your way. Gun is for range shooting? If you fire more than 20 rounds into a target, odds are you aren't going to be able to reasonably judge where you hit it, just that you did.
People who condemn Florida local law enforcement for not rushing in to confront the shooter have a poor (apparently largely popular media driven) idea about what police officers are trained and capable of doing. Regular street cops are not trained or armed to the level of hostage rescue teams and even hostage rescue teams don't rush in guns blazing against an armed assailant. People should realize and accept a basic truth: There is very damn little that the police or civilians can do against an armed assailant who moves into a densely populated venue (school, church, theater, concert) with the full intent of committing random mass murder and mayhem. All the tactical advantages are with the person with the drawn weapon and the will to use it. No amount of police training or armed civilians will ever change that.
Yeah, I wouldn't use that argument if I were you. Various militaries, including the US', have shit themselves of late at realising the damage drones can do - a recent (failed) attempt against Russian forces in Syria may as well have had Peter Jurasik, in full Londo Mollari getup, re-do his speech to Morden about how impressive vehicles in the air are just sitting ducks on the ground to the whole Pentagon. This was a relatively unsophisticated attack, and drones are notoriously difficult to destroy in the air, especially if they're automated. Over the last few months, and in a trend likely to continue, asymmetric warfare is increasingly feasible against a determined Western military - so no, an armed militia wouldn't be without a chance. The likelihood of it ever being needed is remote, but the expectation it would just be a bunch of yahoos firing guns at tanks is facile. The best argument against an armed US population needing to fight its own government is the counter-balancing structures. The US government was designed with compromise and the national interest to be raised above partisan interest, otherwise it'd clog up, which we see happen time-to-time.
Some SWAT teams have (from what I've heard) modified their training and response procedures. But training and procedures do not change the natural reluctance of even elite police units to literally wade into a venue full of fleeing, panicking civilians and risk getting themselves killed, accidentally killing innocents and probably not being able to do any good anyway. You can't blame them. Look how up in arms people get nowadays if police shoot and kill a suspect and have fully legitimate reasons for doing so. Imagine the outrage if they go into an active shooter situation and accidentally gun down some kids while trying to stop a killer. The public reaction would be volcanic.
The Parkland shooting witnesses are taking moral leadership of the gun control debate, filling in the gaps where the adults have abandoned their responsibilities. You must never criticize their perspective because they are victimized children. Pick one.
I'd seriously recommend reading Masaad Ayoob's "The Ayoob Files". It's a monthly gun mag column (available collected in PDF and book form) wherein he takes apart a gunfight in minute detail, analyzes what each side did right and wrong, lesson learned, legal consequences, physical and emotional consequences, etc. One of the most educational tools available on exactly what real gunfights are like. You wouldn't have typed that paragraph if you'd read some. There's no such thing as enough bullets until the guy(s) trying to kill you are no longer trying to kill you.
If the people you're defending yourself against are standing very still, in a well-lit room and aren't too far away, and you're not shitting yourself in terror, and you're not feeling that punched-gut, stung-eye, shivering-spine sensation when about to take another's life, then that is entirely reasonably. For everyone not a Hollywood action movie stereotype, probably not. Unless you're a psycho, or feeling detached from events, it's not like playing House of the Dead.
Must....fight....the joke....bubbling up inside......I CAN'T!! I CAN'T FIIIIGHT IIIIT!!!!!!! *Evil Dicky rips out of my skin, peels it off, plops it on the floor, picks it back up, and eats it* *Stifles a belch* I'm sure it's good chicken coop reading. *Grows giant bat wings* Chicken coop, Forbiiiin!! Chicken cooop!!! AHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!! *Flies away*
Being there doesn’t give him immunity from being criticized. Some of you act as if these victims can say anything and no one is allowed to respond. It doesn’t work like that.
You can criticize. And I can criticize your criticism. Because they're all fucking dumb. Because they try to cast gun nuts as the real victims. And they fucking aren't. Back your criticisms with reality instead of delusion, and you won't be laughed at.
Cuz it fucked your mama, and didn't pay child support, and didn't tell you right from wrong. Now look at you.
Why are you so convinced it's under threat? Seriously. The NRA has been pushing the "they're coming for your guns!!!" line since Clinton, at LEAST. Has it happened? No. Have the Dems proposed any legislation even CLOSE to a gun ban? No. But the NRA keeps pressing that FEAR!!! button and you keep fucking falling for it, because you see this as Us vs Them. Newsflash, 70% of Americans according to recent polls want SOME form of gun control to prevent this shit happening. Only 20% of Americans are members of the NRA. The disparity gets any worse and that whole "ISIS speaks for all Muslims" shit is gonna apply to you fuckers, too.
