I can't see this working. http://deadline.com/2016/06/lost-in-space-remake-picked-up-series-netflix-1201780931/
If they play it straight it could work. The original devolved into a terrible pile of shit as it went, becoming little more than "Doctor Smith and Will, plus the Robot" by the third season. Such a good premise, tho. And I thought the 1998 movie was dreadful. Any time a Hollywood person says "time travel" they should be shot.
I didn't mind the movie, the time travel element was done relatively well, but the film was pretty much action-sc-fi-by-numbers. It was entertaining in that we had Matt LeBlanc playing Joey Tribbiani playing Don West however... As for a series remake, any bets that the robot will look a lot like BB8 from TFA in an attempt to cash in cute robot merchandise?
If they can do it justice & make a decent Sci-Fi show, then by all means, why not? The Irwin Allen show most in need of serious redoing, if someone's all set out to remake Irwin Allen shows, is "TIME TUNNEL"! *UGH!* *MEH!* The series concept is actually an awesome one, a great idea. Except that it was horribly horrifically terribly executed! I TRIED to watch it some years back when it came on the now probably gone GoodLifeTV Network on Thursday nights. Gave it plenty of chances, but WHEW, what a stinker! Simply AWFUL!!
I'll give it a try, but the original wasn't that great. It was so bad that it was good. Mainly because of the battle of wits between the robot and probable pedophile. Every other aspect was terrible or boring. It's too bad Jonathan Harris is dead. He's the only person who can save this turkey.
And Dr. Smith will be played by..... Wait for it....... Wait for it...... Seriously, because this opens up some really interesting possibilities of the relationship between Will Robinson and Dr. Smith Parker Posey! I mean, if this Doesn't have you thinking about Will Robinson saying, "Dr. Smith, are you trying to seduce me?" I don't know what will.
I wonder if this Judy Robinson will get molested by plant tentacles like the original. I think that episode gave birth to Anime.
You lost that bet. The full trailer has dropped and Robbie looks nothing like BB-8. More like K-2SO, if I was going to pick a robot from the SW verse. It looks like Robbie was built by aliens and the music is definitely echoing Hans Zimmer.
Haven't we already had multiple Lost In Space reboots? Space: 1999 Star Trek: Voyager (or was that a Gilligan's Island reboot?)
You made that joke over a year ago, here. Paladin made that joke here and Captain X made it here. Both of them were posted over a year ago as well.
Robbie[sic]? He had a guest appearance as the robotoid on LiSOS. The robot on LIS had some numeric designation (b9) but he was just known as "robot" to Will. His name was Robot. Robbie?
"Robbie the Robot" is the name of the robot prop that was used in Forbidden Planet. The robot used as the robot on Lost in Space was not Robbie the Robot.
Just watched the preview. It looks like a good attempt at recreating the series in the same vein as the pilot (no place to hide). Impressed.
watched the first three episodes last night. I'm not unimpressed. At least how a family came to inhabit a spaceship makes a bit more sense... They manage to give nods to previous iterations of the show, including a blink and you'll miss him Bill Mumy cameo. About the biggest change is the robot.
And you're pretty much right. Story wise? It drags. Get’s way too boring. They could probably cut the episodes and not lose much story wise. Good production values for the sets, spaceships and suits. Robot is cool. Will is annoying. He's another kid that no one puts a leash on and he cause all sorts of problems. Judy the oldest daughter might as well be renamed. Call her Mary Sue. Penny is pretty cool actually. I like her character. Maureen is annoying. John is okay. Smith is interesting but the shtick of her being able to manipulate everyone so easily is getting annoying. Even after what happened to her in episode 8 or 9 IIRC. I won't spoil it but it's a nice nod to the original show. A problem I have with this show is that the writers are relying to much on the characters all keeping information from each other in order to move the plot. It’s no wonder Smith can play them so easily since they are so busy hiding the truth of something that happened or their feelings from each other. Also another problem is that the main characters can't seem to catch a break but Smith seems to be able to score points left and right. She's always in the right place at the right time to continue scheming. I like Don the mechanic. He's hilarious. Debbie is the best though. Really carries the show.
Watched the first ep the other night. It was OK...good enough for me the keep watching for awhile. Although I spotted the plot point that "saved the day" coming a mile away. The flashback at the end, showing events from...what, 12 hours earlier?...kept things interesting. I don't mind a little bit of re-imagining...there's no reason the robot couldn't be alien in nature, no reason why Dr. Smith can't be a woman who is neither a Dr. nor named "Smith". Looking forward to seeing more, and passing judgement along the way.
The first episode is already making me mad. The computer is calling out their altitude in "feet" but when the gauge is shown, it's in "meters".
