one can hope and pray, but if that is that occurs then I suppose elective abortions remain legal in the United States.

In honor of @Dayton3 , I am going to explore and support policies that can increase the number of abortions per year. Maybe offer a tax credit for each dead fetus someone turns over to government.

Wait, is Almighty your last name? Maybe Christopher was referring to another God? After all, he didn’t say God Almighty. Also, what does god need with a last name?

Which makes it all the more ironic that the so-called "pro-lifers" tend to be against better access to contraception ...

I just want medical science to get to the point that men can carry a baby to term, and then invent teleporters. At that point we can solve the whole argument by letting anyone opposed to abortion volunteer to carry them to term themselves.

The surest way to reduce abortions is to increase access to contraception. Yet Republicans are against that too. :mystery:

The people who hate abortion do not care about children, they want to punish women for having sex. Contraception allows for sex without a pregnancy. No pregnancy means no nine months of hell.

Try it sometime. If a woman would like to tell me it is a pleasant physical experience I will listen. You have no way to tell me what it feels like and being you are not very perceptive or empathetic I am sure your wife did what most women do and endured the discomfort for the better outcome of having a child. That in no way makes the process a particularly pleasant one.

there are several state who already have "stand by" laws ready to ban or severely restrict abortion once Roe is gone. Rationally, that SHOULD take a big motivator away from Republicans but...in a lot of states it's near impossible to get an abortion now (here in MS there's a single lightly used clinic in the whole state) and yet they are still successful in manipulating Dominionist voters by shouting "OMG DEAD BABIES!"

well no, blue states will still have broad abortion rights, red state almost none. Killing Roe (which will happen in effect if not in direct action) simply returns to the pre-Roe circumstance where states had differing laws.

If it's planned and prepared for and the woman is in good health, it's a wonderful experience (so nice, I did it twice). The key is to ignore all the well-meaning "advice" from other women ("Like, OMG, I had morning sickness for the entire time...blah-blah-blah") and just enjoy it. (Well, except for the last month, when you feel like you're lugging a 15-pound watermelon with you everywhere you go.)

It also helps to have access to good doctors/midwives, an accredited hospital, and AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE.

With all that in place, it's not the nine months that's the problem. It's the Terrible Twos, the Ferocious Fours, and all of adolescence. But somehow we all survived.

My wife would add another one. Never get a female OB/GYN. A woman OB/GYN tends to be more indifferent to another womans pain basically telling her to "suck it up, I did".

On the other hand, an older male doctor will tend to see a young woman as "like a daughter" and try to spare her as much pain as possible. I'm sure there are exceptions of course.

I still don't know why abortion rights advocates are so worked up about Roe V. Wade anyway.

Absolute worst case, abortions rights are secure in the most populous states like California, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and probably Illinois.

Ohio and Texas are the only high population states where you have a good chance of seeing extensive abortion rights restrictions after a Roe V. Wade overturn.

And of the 22 states likely to severely restrict abortion rights 12 of them border states likely to retain abortion rights as they are.

Are abortion rights advocates worried that in the long run they can't win abortion battles at the state level?

They're worried that women who don't have the luxury of traveling across the country (many of those states restrict access to contraception as well) will resort to back-alley abortions and die.

Or they could pull a Lysistrata and refuse to have sex until Republicans get their heads out of their asses.
